I traded for some 1911 parts the other night and received a few things that I don't know what they are for. Maybe someone here could give me the answers?
#1-Is a frame holding fixture
#2-Is a Wilson sear and hammer jig
#3- Is a Wilson sear jig (I suspect that this is the same as #2 without the hammer jig?)
#4- Is a 2" by 3" .25 inch thick piece of metal with a hole in one side and a screw on the other and "Hammer bob" is written on it in permanent ink.
#5-Is a "mag well filler" made of a solid bar of aluminum.
#6- Is a Brownells trigger stirrup die
#7-Is two pins labeled "sear fit pins"
#8-Is a brownells plunger tube support
#9- Is a grip bushing staker
and last but not least is a Wilson frame hole plunger tool.
I have one more item that is not labeled and I can't very well describe so I will try to post a pic of it when I get a chance for a good picture.
Thanks

#1 is to hold the frame in a vice without marking it so you can work on it.
2 and 3 are for doing trigger jobs.
#4...beats me!
#5 is to put in the magazine well to keep it from collapsing when you tighten a vice on it.
#6 is for forming the trigger part that runs in the frame's channels.
#7 are pins that you can insert in the frame so you can put the hammer and sear on it and see how they're fitting together.
#8 is to keep the plunger tube forced into the side of the frame while you stake its pins on the inside.
#9 is for staking the grip screw bushings inside the mag well so they don't turn out.
"A frame hole plunger tool" is not a familiar term to me.

You got a bunch of neat 1911 tools that are probably worth a few bucks.
What little I know I' ve picked up from the Kuhnhausen shop manuals - #5 is just that, to fill in the magwell when doing assorted things, like compressing frame rails or even just holding the pistol in a vise; keeps the thinner metal from getting deformed by pressure on the unsupported (hollow) area. #9 is used to stake (peen the new metal out to hold in place, like a rivet) new grip bushings. #6 is used on the "bow" of the trigger to reshape, straighten, or resize that particular part of the trigger. #7 is a set of external pins to fit in the sear- and thumb safety-holes, to check that your sear and hammer are aligned and properly mated - they fit in the right side of the detail-stripped frame, and the sear/hammer are mounted on 'em as they'd be pinned in place inside. #2 & #3 would be how you did the specific adjustments you may need to the hammer and sear, #8 does for the plunger tube what #5 does for the mag well - keeps it from getting crushed accidentally, and #1.. uhm, holds the frame. <G> Not sure exactly what purpose, as there's various things you can do that require the frame to be held steady for; some can be done in a vise, some need a specific jig or (obviously) holder.
#4... <scratches head> wonder if that's a jig (home-made?) to use if you wanted to bob your hammer spur to keep it from biting or for use with a beavertail?
The "frame hole plunger tool" might be a staker, for replacing a damaged plunger tube ("Oops, forgot #8."), but I'm not certain.
I'm sure the actual 'smiths are wincing and writing notes to "never let that guy near tools" while reading my reply, but they'll chime in with (coherent/correct) data shortly.

Had there been photos posted with this thread? If so, they are gone now, perhaps with the concern about large (greater than 800X600 pixels). I would have liked to have seen the tools...Pappy

This is the jig that is not labeled. Anyone got any ideas??

OK, the "hammer bob" is officially stumping me. <G>
The "frame holding fixture"... it appears that the inserted screw would fit through the mag-release hole (when stripped), but with only one attatchment point, the plate could rotate. With a second locating pin/screw, maybe through the slide-stop hole, it might align for frame-rail work. As it is... you should be able to put in the magwell filler, use that other screw-assembly in the upper-right to secure it in place and to the plate. ALmost missed this - it's either for use only on the right side of the gun, or you'd have to remove the plunger tube entirely. (Just checked the shop manual v1, and it shows the "frame holding plates" as a pair, with two screws/studs (bad angle to identify) to solidly lock the frame in position. Wonder if you only got half the set?)
The unlabelled jig, again I'm clueless. The nice smooth radius on the one side makes me suspect it's something to do with the barrel, slide top, dust cover or front strap, but that's as far as I can go.

Does anyone have a link (or can scan in) instructions for the hammer/sear jig? I would like to learn how to use this one. The rest is prolly over my head. Except for maybe the trigger die.

That unlabeled tool looks like a checkering tool guide of some kind.

Hi
Hammer Bob is what you throw at Bob when he's not very helpful :D :D :D
The Wilson sear and hammer stuff look like they should be very useful. I'd check the Wilson web site and see if they have instructions posted. If they do not I'd bet they can send you some.
I'm surprised that there were not some hand tools in this batch. It looks like a pretty good inventory of fixtures. I would have guessed the guy would have had some good files and screwdrivers as well.
One question - is Hammer Bob the same size as "Frame Cut"? If so I'd bet it's a holding fixture for a milling machine.

Thanks I'll check the site, yes the hammer bob jig is almost exactly the same size as the frame cut.

Hi
Then I would say the earlier guess is right on the money. They are a pair of fixtures for putting in beaver tails and bobbing hammers.
I was getting worried about the Hammer Bob part :D :D :D :D

The jig that is not labeled is the Brownells 1911 Auto Checkering Guide.
Quoted from Brownells:
Clamps over the frame of a 1911 Auto to provide a solid guide for getting the front strap checkering lines started correctly. Sets up 60° or 90° diamonds. Long enough to allow a good, long, contour-following stroke on the Checkering File.

Thanks Pistoldoc. Now that's something I might get some use out of, the rest I just don't know.
