View Full Version : .22 kits, all you need is a 1911 lower?
Greetings.
For these .22 conversion kits, which I believe come with a magazine, slide, bbl, and guide rod / spring, do I just need the 1911 lower?
I'm interested in a 1911 .22 conversion kit but don't want to use it on my 1911s. I'm thinking of a WTB ad for just the lower and having a dedicated 1911 .22.

People do this all the time. I put together a complete "lower" using an Essex frame for my .22LR conversion. It's easy enough to swap it out with your regular 1911, but I (like you) just liked the idea of a pistol outfitted that way all the time.

Anopsis,
Thanks. Have you ever seen 1911 lowers only for sale assembled? Or I could go the WTB route and see if there are any laying around. Maybe one of the 1911 dealers could help with factory seconds?

Compete lowers are not usually seen for sale, but it's possible. You could probably get a spare-parts build on the cheap; somewhere around $250 maybe.

f.2,
Rock River sells a complete lower specifically for 22 converison units.
They're pricy but you'll get you money's worth based on what I know about Rock River.
I built up a lower using a standard Caspian frame and high end ignition parts.
If you're looking for top accuracy the Marvel Unit 1 is the best of the current production - info on this site suggests AA's target model will also be capable of very good accuracy.
These kind of units deserve a good trigger - crisp and light.
