I have a Colt Target Model chambered for 38 Special, not Super, and looking to find out how much it is worth. I havent fired it and I am thinking of selling it. It has a rich deep blue slide, skeleton trigger, adjustable rear sight, and original wood grips. Any help on determining the value of this would be helpful. Please do not remove this post, it is a genuine from the factory Colt 1911 pattern 38 Special

I would also have it appraised professionally. Any facts you know about it might also lend value such as when and where it was bought, who shot it etc. I have 0 interest in guns like this, but the right Colt collector might pay a lot.

I take it this is a Gold Cup National Match 38MR. If you'll provide the most of the serial number I can date it. If it's not a GCNM in 38MR, then it's not original. There were several famous pistol smiths that converted guns to this caliber.
A Colt GCNM 38MR in good to excellent condition should be worth at least $1000 and to the right person might even go up towards $1600 or so. I watch them go in several places online and the price they bring depends on just how badly the buyer wants one.
I have 2 of them and they shoot great. I paid less than $1000 for each of mine, but neither were NIB, just nice.

Thanks Joni, the serial # is 90-MR. I dont know if this helps, but all the markings on the pistol look to be done in gold plating. I dont know if that was done at the factory or as an aftermarket thing.

Is that 90MR or 90xMR?
If it's 90MR the gun is early early 1960, if 90XMR then 1961.
Gold markings are not original.
A MR this old should have a version of the Accro rear sight and not the Elliason which is more commonly known.
Be real careful not to lose the recoil spring plug or bushing, they aren't easily replaced due to their odd shapes.
