Bienvenue, Swat74,
The Colt Officers is an excellent pistol. I own one (with a steel frame, not the lightweight version) and it is 100% reliable. Reliability is, of course, the most important factor for a weapon you will carry to defend your life.
Regarding the lightweight frame, I suggest that you contact our forum member "Wichaka." He is a police officer, and he carries a Colt lightweight Commander. I will not speak for him, but I think he will tell you that the lightweight frame is very adequate for carry by a police officer.
Regarding the Norinco: I do not know what a fair price should be in France, but in my region of the United States $200 for a Norinco Commander is a bargain.

I bought a lightweight Officers model earlier this year and find it to be quite reliable. I think I paid 545.00 on gunsamerica.com. 500.00 sounds like a tres bien price!

One can only hope. Unfortunately, I was never good in languages, and as I married a Latina a couple of years ago and am now struggling to learn Spanish, it has pretty much driven French out of my soggy brain. What little remains has been corrupted into a mixture of "Franish" and "Spench."

Careful. I took Spanish through junior and senior high - when I went to college I decided to switch to French - my French teacher used to be fascinated when I spoke - she said I spoke French exactly like a Spaniard.
I eventually dropped the class. Never could get the Spanish out of the way.

Yes, and I speak Spanish exactly like an American who studied French 40+ years ago.

I'm sure you had a hard time with the u, that you probably pronounced oo!
Hawkmoon, Kansas...maybe we should meet, for a cerveza in Acuna or Laredo, and start conversing in Franish...I'd like to see the locals reaction:D :D

Sounds like fun, but I can't. The French Department paid me never to attempt the French language ever again. Threatened, more like. I don't know - what's the French for "horses' head" and "foot of the bed"?

Funny coming from a rancher who loves horses!;)

Hey. Threaten to cut the heads off my horses if I speak French again, and you get my attention. :scared: (The reference was to the movie scene in Godfather when a fellow wakes up with the head of his race horse on the foot of his bed)
Concerning the trip to Laredo - my French is so bad, okcorral1881, that you would be sure to ask me to stop speaking Czec. Yea. It's that bad. :(

Dear Sir,
I don't speak French;but I would like to inform you of my own personal experiences with the Colt LW Officer's ACP series 80.
I bought a new Colt series 80,LW, OACP around 1993. I have carried it concealed,in waistband, and as a fixture in my automobile since that time.
I actually shoot it approx. once a month or so;and clean it once every six months or so.(I am lazy).
The Colt Officer's ACP is my very favorite,all-round M1911. And the lightweight version, while not such a factor as a "carry" weapon, is very much appreciated ,in my hands, during actual handling and shooting.
The critical dependability of my series 80 LW OACP inspires great confidence in that I have never had a "failure to fire/function" with this pistol using a wide variety of bullet shapes and brands.
It is loose as a goose;and as accurate as I will ever need. It is fast to deploy and sure-fire.
The only series 80 LW OACP(only one I know of) s available, new, from Central Florida Pawn&Gun for about $1200 if I remember correctly. It is listed under "Collectible Colts". Sounds like a good deal to me,had I the cash.
I have really enjoyed my ser.80,LW, OACP.
I just purchased a Colt "McCormick Officer's" model for just over $1K. It feels so much heavier in my hand;but not too noticeable a difference in the holster.
Colt must have had some good reasons for discontinuing the "Officer's ACP";but I can't imagine what they might be.

I may have a line on an officers model too, don't know if it is the lightweight one or not but would 600 or less be worth buying without worrying about it? John

swat74. Welcome to the forum and I know your English is better than my French. I am excited to learn about the gun laws in France. You can own multiple 1911's? John, in Greece says he can only have two hand guns. I guess I wonder what are the restrictions in France. In America, even law enforcement folk have to abide by the laws of the state they reside in when off duty, and the laws vary by state.

I have 2 OM's that I bought used for under 550.00 each, (both within the last year) one is a light weight and both are in great shape. 600.00 may be a good deal if the gun is in fine shape. I enjoy shooting them both, good luck with your search for one. :)

The french law is very very complicate and very stupide for a lot of think. Some of politics hate the gun in the US you had got clinton and the ban in french it s the same persons who hate weapon , shooters and hunters.
