It took me 3 other 1911s to realize my philosophy is skewed
Previously: "9mm=glock, .357=S&W, .45=1911"
Now: "9mm=Glock, .357=S&W, and .45=Colt 1911" :D
My new baby:

1981 Series 70 Gov't model, the smoothest, prettiest 1911 I've ever played with, and I haven't even shot it yet :p
A selling feature: its the same age as me!
More, better pictures when I figure the camera, lighting setup out.

Thanks, I was really suprised when I picked it up, the description was "some honest wear", and its almost too nice. And like I said, since both this 1911 and I were made in 1981, I knew I had to have it.

Well I sure am glad you have seen the light. There is just something about the Rampant Pony. Great job on the picture as well as a nice looking Colt.

Nice pistol.
.357 magnum=Python, Trooper or King Cobra,
.38 Special=Diamondback or Detective Special,
44 Magnum=Anaconda
45 ACP=Colt 1911,
Super 38=Colt 1911,
9MM=Colt 1911..
I think I have a Colt fixation..... :D

.357 : Colt Python 3" (yeah sure, in my dreams)
9mm : Colt Combat Commander
.45 ACP: Nighthawk Talon, Colt Combat Commander
I have Coltitis, I know.

:o
I must admit, the pistol is indeed mine, but the previous owner took the picture
The trigger is Videki if anyone was wondering. I'd prefer OEM, but this one is well fitted and the pull is fantastic, so it'll stay
I just really hope a 9mm Commander (or a .45 Combat Commander) does not find its way into my zip code any time soon.... :D

Got to shoot it this weekend finally. Fantastic pistol, very accurate, even with the difficult to see sights, smooth recoiling, controllable, etc.
3-5 FTE's though (out of 100rds), every single time the casing was caught parallel to the chamber in the ejection port (if that makes since). It did it regardless of magazine, and almost always the next to last round in the mag. Any ideas? I'm thinking extractor tension or shape, maybe even clocking? Also possibly a bunch of weak mag springs, although it did it with a Wilson mag with a brand new wolff extra power spring.
No worries, I still love the pistol, and I need an excuse to go visit Tuner anyway:p

Got it to 1911Tuner today, he tweaked the extractor, pointed out I was riding the slide and slide stop with my thumb, and said he really liked the Colt :)
Put about 150rds though it, got it hot and dirt, and it runs great with any kind of ammo

You are very fortunate to live nearby Tuner! Seems like he can solve any problem in a 1911! Enjoy your beauty!!

Rob,
Nice meeting you at 1911 Tuner's yesterday. Didn't we have fun listening to him talk guns? Even my wife had fun and she's never shot a gun.
Best wishes on your up coming wedding.
BTW great looking 1911.

Tuner talking about guns?? Neah, I do not believe it!
Did you video the session? Or at least tape-recorded it????? The time you spend with our resident guru is invaluable, you should share!

Jerry, it was a pleasure to meet you as well. I wish you the best of luck, since now you've been exposed to the 1911 infection, you will suddenly find yourself drawn to more 1911s, making the trip to Lexington more and more, and finally you'll forget all about that CZ :p
Tuner tuned the extractor slightly and installed an ambi safety on the Colt for me and I put 150rds though it. This Colt ended up with little chunks of my left hand on the hammer and grip safety :( , but I am torn between remedying this situation with a real beavertail and matching hammer or just leaving it as is. I humbly admit this is the nicest pistol I own, and also one of the best shooting, so its a tough call...

I have opted for revising my grip technique rather than swapping parts on models with the older grip safeties and spur hammers. Still get a mark but it's not bad at all and I like to keep the vintage ones, esp. goodies like your '81 as it was. Just my 2 cents...
Again, that is a BEAUTY!!!
