I am not a big fan of the wide extended safeties that are now common place on factory 1911s. I was browsing through Brownells catalog and could not find any listings for standard safeties with one exception. It was in the value line of parts that are simply titled as American made. I find this to be troubling. I own three Colt's and a SA mil-spec and love the way the safeties are done. They extend just enough for a thumb rest and don't potrude too much as to snag anything while concealed. Maybe I'm just crazy or old school, but give me a moderately extended safety any day of the week. Does anyone know of a manufacturer that sells a "standard" safety?

You can get factory Colt safeties thru Brownells. Back after the index in the Brownells cat., there are sections of manufacturers parts by make, look there under Colt and you'll find them.

Or if you're looking for a good sized extended safety, I use Wilson's. Its a very good size...........not too big, not too small.

I looked in that very section and came up empty under all of the Colt headings for a safety.

They're called safety locks, but I see they only have dull SS........
So you may have to call Colt direct. I've done that many times for parts I couldn't find.

Ditto for my second look thru. Only listing is for dull stainless.
