Just a quick question about the recoil spring in my stock Colt Combat Elite. I don’t know what poundage spring is in the pistol now but I do think I could use it for a replacement spring in the front end of my F150 if needed! Do I have any options to make this pistol a little more user friendly at the range. From some searches I’v done on the site, Wolff springs look like a good manufacture for a replacement. What poundage would you suggest to tone down the factory spring.
I shoot 200 gr. Laser-Cast SWC with 4.9 gr. of 231 powder most of the time at the range and 200 gr. Hornady XTP HP with 6.0 gr. of 231 for other at the cabin shooting.

Thanks

Chris

It should work fine with the stock 16lb spring.

16 pounds is correct. If you bought it used, the previous owner may have put in an 18, 20, 22 or 24 pound spring. Why? Because it is frequently the rage in gun magazine articles. Recoil springs do very little to delay unlocking, but they do send the slide forward with tremendous energy. And yes, I learned this the hard way.

I have the original recoil spring in my Combat Elite and it has 32 turns, which according to Kuhnhausen, should be a 16# spring.

Hi to all guys! I agree with Texasgun, in fact the factory recoil spring rate is 16 lbs  like the Government model. You can install a +1 or -1 lbs spring in order to achive a more flat realignment of the slide due to your reloading features.
