How desirable are nickel finished Colts? I know some other manufactures have had problems with their nickel finishes flaking off (Heckler & Koch P7s come to mind). How would a nickel series 70 commander stack up against a blued series 70 commander of the same grade?

Is it common to have these guns refinished? If you have custom work done, do you have to pick a new finish, or can custom shops "re-nickel) the finish after installing beavertail, sights, bobtail, etc?

Thanks Colt gurus...

I only have 1 Colt with a nickle finish. It is a 1979 Colt Gold Cup National Match and it has a nickle frame. The finish is I do believe original and still looks great. You must keep in mind some solvents such as Hopps #9 can harm a nickle finish.

Thanks for the reply. How about a refinish after custom work? Is it possible (advisable) to "re-nickel" the weapon after work is done, or do most people just pick a different finish to do?
