Hi

A while back I decided that I needed a GCT. The conversation went back and forth about blue versus stainless. Various people chimed in with helpfull suggestions. Ultimately I decided to get a stainless. Ever since I keep looking at the blued GCT's.

Hunter offered a solution to the problem......

The box:

and the pistol:

So now I have both a blued GCT and one in stainless.

Why is it that this behavior does not seem odd in any way? :scared: :scared: :scared:

Bob,
First things first. Congratulations on your new blued Gold Cup Trophy! It's a beauty!!
Although Hunter and I have collaborated on an E-zine article, we've never laid eyes on one another. However, on visits to my local gun shop, I seem to feel his ethereal presence whenever I am in close proximity to Colts.
Hmmmmm!

:D :D :D

Hi

There's something about the blued GCT that just looks *right*. The sight and the rib are what they are supposed to be.

I have a nasty suspicion that's because I have spent a *lot* of time looking at that rib and that sight. Good thing they still make them !!!

It is odd how you can feel the heat difference with the plastic MSH though. It's not a problem, but you can notice it on a cold pistol.

Well Bob I think you did good. I cannot see a problem with what you got going on.
I really do love the look of a blued Colt Government Model and the Gold Cup Trophy is one of my favorite Colts.

Excellent Bob.............you do of course realize that there will be more Gold Cups now.
You did well. Now you're going to have a lot of range reports to post!

Nice buy!
Perfectly normal behavior (he says talking to himself) I have done the same thing myself. I have blue and stainless of several models. Blue because it's pretty and stainless because it looks good and is able to stand up to the elements a little better when in a holster. My problem is that I am a certified member of the Bright Stainless Cult also. My member name would be "oiluvashinypimpguncanibuyurs?"

Hi

Hmm, range reports ....

More range reports = more ammo ....

That's a different thread.

I agree that stainless is more resistant to a number of things. Unfortunately I have proven that it's not completely resistant to stuff like rust. It's certainly better than a blue finish for durability.

Of course blue *looks* like blue. There's nothing else that quite looks the same.

The other thing that surprises me on the GCT is that the sight on the blued version is completely different than the one on the stainless. In fact the whole slide has a very different look to it. I think the blue wins out ...

Of course there's the possibility of a two tone GCT ....

Hi

It's the funds part of it that gets in the way.

Simple rule - don't buy guns with borrowed money....

Hi

My favorite Gold Cup was a series 70. It took a while to get it to work right though.

The series 70 I had wasn't very accurate so it got used for a full build. Now I don't have one.

Hi

My Series 70 came complete with a gunsmith who (fortunately) knew 1911's. I bought the pistol and picked one of his flyers on the same day at the same store. I can't even count how many times we went over that pistol.

Well done! A very enlightened, rational approach to your conundrum. As for Freud, you know what's said about Freudians: "If it's not one thing, it's your mother."..

Today top scientists reported that all known Colt's on the planet seem to be moving towards a common center, located in North Carolina. Their movement overall is not discernable to the naked eye but appears to be only an inch or so per year but it is confirmed they are definitely moving as if being drawn towards a gravitational entity or black hole. Some models of Colt's seem to be moving faster than others.
NASA reports having interest in an investigation of 'Hunter'.

Bob do you mean the oldest possible Gold Cup NM or oldest NM? The GCNM began in 1957. I'll let you shoot one of mine sometime.

Hi

That's what I have observed. I go to bed and get up in the morning. I go downstairs and all the Colts seem to have moved an inch or two south overnight. It's scary !!! :scared: :scared: :scared:

A 50's GCNM would be nice. A 1930's NM would be nice-er.

I believe that scientists have reported a magnetic field that attracts guns made with barstock and very little MIM.Maybe thats why there are so few K**bers down there.

Bob

Maybe we should line our safes with lead to counter-act the magnetic pull!!!!!!!!!

Joni Lynn
26th February 2007, 18:48
Nope.............a gravitational anomaly such as Hunter can't be offset by the mere application of lead.

Your Python's and Diamondback's are safe. At least from Hunter, he seems to think that Ruger's are the wheelguns you should buy. :scared: Go figure.

I think the ASHHP might be more interested in Hunter than NASA.

Hi

The plant in Connecticut was one town over from Ruger's head office. There were still a few people that had worked for Ruger at our plant. They spoke *very* highly of it as a place to work.

I run hot and cold on Ruger pistols. I'm a big fan of their 22's and up and down on Bisley Blackhawks..

Hi

As I started out, Hunter is the one that pointed out the value of a blued GCT right up front. I got the stainless first without thinking as clearly as I should have. The blue ones are scarce ....
