This is my first post (and thread) here. Does anyone know anything about the following pistol I inherited from my father:

Dad had at one time said he thought it was a custom shop piece and fairly rare. It looks as though it may never have been fired.

Any info would be appreciated.

Definately a custom shop piece...what I dont know is what Colt distributor commissioned it. A call to Colt will tell you what year if you don't already know. Here is another one on GB.....

Welcome to the forum. You are a lucky man to have that Colt she is beautiful. I am a Colt man myself and believe them to be the finest 1911 to be had.

Great pistol ! So this is a Government model which came together with an Officers slide?

Could you please take some detailed pictures of the underside of two slides, the one next to the other, with the rear end of the slides aligned? Also could you take some pictures comparing the frame of that pistol with a standard 1911 frame?

See that Hawkmoon? I told you it could be done!

Thanks again for the kind words folks. I will take some real pics soon - those were shot with my son's cellphone. Of the 1911's I've been blessed to own and/or shoot, I've never experienced one with a trigger as nice as this one. Only sign of wear or damage I can see is a very slight "bruise" on the left corner of the rear sight, like it may have dropped on a smooth hard surface at some time.
