Anyone check out Guns&Ammo's new magazine on the 1911?

Some good articles on Yost, Springs, and other stuff.

Let me know what you think.

I've had a copy in my "library" for a couple of weeks. Good info. I think I'll add to my reference collection.:)

I seem to add most anything 1911 to my refernce library whether I need it or not.

There's a few things that sparked my interest in the mag., but got it mostly because its all about 1911's.

Is this something brand new, or would/could this be the same one I picked up last Fall?

wichaka

Not sure when it came out, it saya 'Display until March 22 2005'

The picture on the front is the Colt 1911 U.S. Army reissue model.

Is this the same one?

That doesn't sound like the one I have. I guess my first stop when I get home will have to be Barnes & Noble.

Gentlemen,
Should we start up a collection of magazines like this for El Commandante?

I got the one from last year where G&A did a special on the SA USGI.

Okay John, I just picked up a copy for you.

Anyone else want to donate to the "Poor John in Greece, who doesn't get any of the good 1911 info. sympathy drive?

Ship anything 1911 that you're willing to part with to me, and I'll bundle everything up and send out to our poor underpriveledged Commandante'
Have it here by March 1........

PM me for my address.........

Gentlemen,

I really appreciate your sympathy. One of the hardest things for me, is to get this kind of books. They aren't available here. Thank God, several good folks, in the past, have send me various bits and pieces, and this is how the M1911.ORG became a reality. So, I would suggest that if you have something of interest, if you can spare it, rest assured it would be appreciated.

I would suggest that you post here, what you have and intend to send to Wichaka, so that you do not bother if it is something I already have.

One thing I am really interested in, is the Kuhnhausen books, if someone has a spare copy, no matter in which condition, I would love to have them.

Rgds and again many thanks to all.

I have a very good condition copy of the Kuhnhausen Vol 1 I will be glad to donate. Personally, I've never been that impressed with it anyway. Wichaka, I've got to leave town right now, but if you don't mind p.m. ing me sometime this weekend I'll get ot out to you first of next week.
Hope this helps,
Gary

This is the second 1911 special edition. Good information and some really nice guns are featured. The Baer Premiere II had an excellent review in this issue.

So far we've got;

Kuhnhausen Shop Manual Vol 1
Guns & Ammo Book of the 1911, which is actually a magazine
Combat Handguns - Custom Combat Handguns 1911

Keep 'em coming folks.

John

Dear Stumbler, there is no need to send magazines. These, do come here, even with a 2-3 months delay. It's 1911 special things that I am looking for. In any case, thanks very much for your offer, sincerely appreciated.

I've got a copy of Pat Sweeny's book on the 1911 put out by the people that publish the Gun Digest that I'll be glad to donate. As well as a copy of Lachuk's (sp?) book on the same subject, even if it is mostly a recap of the guns he builds. I just have to find them both.

What you will not get is either Clawson's book or Goddard's book. And I'll not send Bady's book on Colt Automatic Pistols. :p

absolutely true, good group of people here. That 1911 Magazine was neat but I've learned much more about the 1911 on this site than I've read in magazines. I'm happy for both.

Jim V

Well, as of now, I have not found either of the two books I mentioned (I know they are here someplace) so I'll order a copy of Stephen Camp's book on the 1911 for John.

Questions:

Has it been sent yet?

If so, has it arrived?

If it arrived, how many of the books has John read?

Hmmmm?

No books here yet partner. As you know, Wichaka was out of city for a training or something (that's what we call it these days?) and I haven't heard from him on this issue.

I'm back............everyone run now!

I've got Camps book from Jim V, and a Kuhnhausen book, along with 2 1911 magazines.

Last call folks, anyone want to contribute to the El Commandante 1911 reading material drive?

Will let this wait over the weekend to see if anyone else comes up with anything. If not, they get shipped out on Monday.

Wichaka pm'ed me earlier this week that he had received the Kuhnhausen book. So, things are progressing I'm sure. You're just going to have to be patient John :D :D
Sorry Steve, you must have been typing a few seconds before I was.

I still have not found Sweeny's book, I know it has to be buried under that pile of books and magazines next to my recliner.

If I had it I would have sent it too.

Of course John has conveniently omitted mentioning that as a result of his whining about lack of gun mags, I sent him two care packages prior to heading out with the wife on our current excursion. However, he has had sufficient time to read them by now, so it's time for new fodder.

BTW -- If we collect enough, the USPS has a special service for sending books to other countries economically. Don't know if it includes magazines, but I don't see why not. You go to the post office and get a "book bag." It's a big, heavy canvas sack like what banks carry money in. Fill it up with books, and I believe it goes for a flat rate.

Might be worth looking into.

Guilty as charged, Hawkmoon has send me several mags in the past, and I have never thanked him enough for that.

As for the books bag, Wichaka, please check out if that comes airmail or surface. If it comes surface, let me know, it takes about 3-6 months to come.

John
17th April 2005, 14:51
Nope the books package hasn't arrived yet. Maybe Steve send it surface mail, I do not know. Another package he send me later on, arrived already but not the books.

I'll keep you all posted when they get here.

wichaka
17th April 2005, 19:23
They were heavy..........the only thing I remember was that if they went the usual way I send stuff to you, it was going to be over 30.00, so I sent them the cheaper way. Which could have been by Llama.........I don't know.

Hopefully you'll get them soon, or by next September............not sure.

John
18th April 2005, 00:34
You did the right thing. September should be fine, that's when I usually run out of things to read at the beach, where my crazy wife is dragging me every weekend. I spend most of the time under the umbrella, so by September all the reading material is consumed. It would be perfect time!
