I'm curious about the stock Springfield Champion's recoild spring...is it 18 lbs?

I'm asking because I'm building a project that will use a 4" bull barrel.

My SA SS Champion has the dual recoil spring set up. As for what spring rate they are is unknown to me. Personal guess, is that 18 lbs might be a bit low. This estimate is from when I compare it to the 16 lbs in a full size. Then again, I'm not calibrated to that level of accuracy....

I would advise you to give Deb a call at the Springfield Custom Shop. [They handle the warrenty and related questions] Good folks that should provide the answers that you're looking for.
