I know that my hands are not what they used to be. But, when I rack the slide on my Springfield Loaded model, it seems to take a lot more effort than the slide on my Para-Ordnance commander size or even my officers size Kimber.( See, I started samll and am working up in size). Any suggestions to make this easier?
Thanks

Is this with the hammer dropped or cocked?
If its dropped then the biggest thing I did to help with that was to drop that SA 28#mainspring down to a colt 23# mainspring, that helped me ALOT.
I would probably stay with a standard recoil spring, heard too many reasons not to. Could set the timing of the gun off. Changing that mainspring however seemed to help the trigger pull also...

Is to precock hammer, then retract slide. With a 16/18# recoil spring, shouldn't be excessively hard, unless old age is kicking in (?). I'm 66 and knows of where I speak.

I saw an article once where an individual made a block from wood that had enough clearance for the barrel to move but held the slide. "Pushing" the gun nose first allowed the elderly gentleman (he was over 85) to cock the 1911 on the range.(When are you old enuff for "OTD" (Old Timer's Disease)?)

Thanks, just ordered one of those 19 dollar ones, can't go too far wrong at that price. Have a good day and catch some bad guys!! woof, woof, Grrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr fro the bad guys, says Bear. Found the problem with my Micro, it shoots everything fine but Wolf, some rounds are a little weak and the slide short strokes and case does not hit the ejector and is pushed back into the chamber and the slide jams on the next round in the mag. Shot alot of other ammo and it all works fine, So I ain't gonna fix it, till it really breaks.

Oh yes, Ber just loves them peanut butter flaviored dog cookies from PetsMart, they got to be his favorite. Of course any treat you can get is good, we were at the club this afternoon and we have movie theter corn popper and he just loves popcorn too. Fringe benefit, popper is always full and bag your own at no charge, I do think it increases our soda sales though.

Crime is still going..........has slowed a bit.......which gives me more time in the shop here at the dept.
I cjecked on the company of the comp. that I have, and they are out of biz., so that answers that.
Would like to see a pic of the one you're getting.

Sorry to interupt but your response has interested me. I have been having ejection problems with a load even using a 8# recoil spring and now am wondering if the mainspring is to heavy. The ejector and extractor all seem fine. I have a Springfiled 1911-A-1 target model with about 1500 rounds through it. I have a load for bullseye that I want to shoot. After 10-15 rounds the ejection problems start with stove pipes and empty cases staying flat in the slide. The extractor passes all the tension tests advertised. Its like again the slide does not come all the way back after awhile or in slow fire. :)
Any feedback will be apprciated.
