Was very happy with my Defender, but felt that a tad more grip and barrel were going to be a better shooter in the long run, so the search for a lightweight commander began. Torn between the colt and smith and wesson, and don't anyone write off dan wesson, but settled on the xse.
Fit is pretty good, but the trigger rattles..alot. Quite abit of take up as well. Not sure how I feel about the grip safety.
Will shoot it tomorrow.
Confused on magazines. Followed the thread here, which said mcormick followers were the worst for the alloy frame, but the followers are the exact same as the colt 8 rd factory that came with it??

mike56,
I too own a Colt XSE LW Commander. I also own a Model 04691 blue, all-steel Commander as well as a Model 04091U stainless steel Commander. The triggers on the two Combat(that's what they use to be called) Commanders are far superior to the trigger on the XSE. I can manipulate all of them to my satisfaction, but yours will be a matter of personal choice. Should you wish to change the trigger and the grip safety, it's your gun. :)

As to the magazine question:
Although my XSE came with the McCormick/Devel style followers on the 8 round magazines, I exclusively use the 7 round, dimpled follower, hybrid feed lip magazines provided with my other Colts, as well as some identical magazines purchased through Brownells. There is a large thread about this in the Magazine Forum.

I think Colt supplies the Guns with 8 round mags because that's the rage now. The possibility of the devel followers doing damage to an alloy framed gun has been discussed at length in the forum. I chose to replace the followers in my Colt 8 round mags with Wilson Combat mag kits, which also decreased the capacity to 7 rounds. Better to be safe then sorry. There are pics in another thread of a lightweight Kimber that had significant feed ramp damage. Also, look at Glockinloads thread about a nick in his feed ramp.

Well, back from the first outing.
200 rounds of some mag-tech 230 ball. Fed and ejected all without a problem.
Did not like my 200 gr hollowpoint reloads, some stovepipes, so I think the loads were too light.
Groups were terrible, even off a rest. And it shot about 4 inches low.
All mags worked fine. I think I'll stick with the wilsons and the metalform round follwers to protect the frame.

It's a keeper, but does need some TLC.
