I just picked up a 9mm Combat Commander ( blue finish ) Ser # 70B S16XXX that is in near new condition for about $450 . Is the gun special / rare that should make me resist the temptation to modifiy it ? I am assuming that this was a fair price

I can also buy a Gold Cup NM ( blued ) Ser#70N66XXX . The seller wants considerably more than he did for the Combat Commander ( about $800 )

It seems to be in great shape. Is this a fair price? Looks like he took the original grips off. Any help would be appreciated

Thanks

The combat commander is from 1973. 9mm commanders in your form are and have been very pricey. Apparently they are going for 750-1000 depending on condition, box, etc. My mindset would have me leave it alone...but that is me, I am not a customizer....I much prefer stock. The Gold Cup was made after 1976 and while not the absolute steal that you got on the Commander, it is a typical asking price for a good series 70 gold Cup.
