Amazes me how he lists it as 98% though. It's been owned, fired, and has holster wear. I've been drooling over it none the less. Too bad it's too expensive for what it is (for me) anyway.

You're right, it's not 98% but it's nice! 1100.00 to start is high, I guess the guy knows what he has. A pretty rare gun, at least to my knowledge. Too rich for me right now also, I've got to pay some bills first!

I wonder if some of those guys know what the requirements are for a gun to be considered 98%. I think a lot of them just figure if it has 98% of the finish left on it, it's a 98% gun....

Good question Brad. I'm sure a lot of them really don't know what the criteria is to describe different percentages. Secondly they probalby wouldn't care either because they know a lot of buyers don't know as well.

That's an excellent point.

My understanding of the Blue Book rating system is that NIB, unfired (except for factory proof), and never sold at retail is 100%. As soon as a retail buyer takes ownership, it drops to 98%. As soon as that first buyer fires it, it drops to 95%. Any other blemishes reduce it to less than 95%.

I would rate that pistol at between 90% and 92%. It ain't 98% and I think 95% would be a stretch.

C&R firearms are generally rated based on percentage of original finish remaining. I don't think that system applies to this pistol, since it isn't C&R eligible.

I agree as others have that it is NOT 98%. Like the previous poster said, I would rate it at around 90% also.

I would not give more than $800 for it.

I saw a similar LW Commander in a local shop last week for $750. It definitely had more wear than that one on Gunbroker and IIRC it was 45 ACP, but it was still pretty neat. There is quite a difference in weight, size and handling compared to a Gov't Model, and I wouldn't mind having one if the price was right.

If it weren't for this dang furnace bill I have to pay I just might go for it. This is one case where it is desireable enough for me that I might eat the high price to get something that I wanted bad enough. Sometimes my lack of patience can cost me and this is one such case. I'd try a lower bid as there is no reserve but if needed I could still live with myself if I paid the full price. I do realize that it is several hundred dollars high but sometimes my impulses get the better of me. At least I have enough sense to wait 'til my bills are caught up! Stupid furnace...

Paul hit the nail on the head. Each person has their own criteria for deciding what makes a gun worth the cost.

That is beautiful Justin. http://forum.m1911.org/images/icons/icon16.gif

I doubt he has any trouble at all getting huge money for it.

That price is really pushing it, but I'd be sorely tempted if in better financial health right now... Something like that, somewhat older vintage and .38 Super to boot, is high on my list. Sometimes a fool and his money...

It's worth what it's worth to the buyer...I like Colt's from that vintage, and if you prefer the Commander version, this one is very nice and certainly won't depreciate over time from what you gents have been quoting...

Good Luck whatever you decide...
