A local shop has a new in the box .38 Super Special Edition that's tugging at me. A quick search didn't turn anything up here and I don't see it on the Colt's site. It appears to be polished stainless with some engraving on the slide.
Any clues as to what's special here?
It looks like it might be a good wifey-gun, maybe with an extra 9mm barrel.
She likes the shiny ones.

I am under the impression from the salesman that it is new, 2006 manufacture. I think I'll go back and dig a little deeper.

My guess it's a Lew Horton piece.....like this....
Examples come in series 80 and 70, blue and stainless, .45 and .38, in 2006 http://www.gunsamerica.com/classifieds/none/_976806839.aspx

Hi
If you go over to the S&W site and check on Performance Center pistols they list a number of them done for various distributors.
Colt's Custom Shop does the same thing as S&W. The main difference is that they do not put the pictures up on the web site. My guess is that Colt does far fewer in a run than S&W.
Value is tough to estimate. The auction sites should give you a rough idea. Normally engraving or inlay adds to the pistol based on square inches of work and the level of detail.

Hi
Price and value may or may not be the same thing :D :D.
I have seen some of these go for above MSRP and the customer was happy to pay it.
