My local ffl said he's he put one on order when he was at the shot show and he's going to hold it for me when it comes in. In fact I'm selling my Kimber ultra carry to a friend and will likely replace the Kimber with the new Colt.

I seem to recall Mark1648 saying Colt got orders for 1800 and might start getting them out early 2nd quarter? Wow...you might get a real low serial number.....

I think I read that Colt makes about 6000 pistols a year, 1800 is almost 4 months production.....I might have to get one of those just so I can remain a member in good standing in the club.

LOL, I believe I'm caught up this year. I'm trying to get a jump on next year. :lh:

Somehow I think this figure (6000 guns a year) is low. I seem to remember that Mark Roberts told us that they make about 20000 guns a year, but my memory cells are not what they used to be, so I can be off on this one.

Hawkmoon, do you remember something better than I do?

Right John, 6000 seems a bit low...in that case members from M1911 bought all last year's production;)

OD*...?

Let's see, if every member bought 10...hey, we may have accounted for 20,000 as well!! :D

I thought I heard it was that many a month..... ;)

I seem to recall I read a good while ago Mark1648 said on 1911forum production was 2-3000 units a months......

6000 seemed low to me also, but the largest producer made I think 40 or 50k 1911's per year and I believe that Colt was way down the list and with a very small number at that. I might be wrong, but that is what I "think" I read. I'm sure if I'm wrong on this, someone will chime in with the correct number. I believe the figures were for several years ago. Maybe OD will pop in, he usually has this stuff readily available.

I was wrong, If this article is correct, it came from the internet, so....It says Colt made 13000 in a year. A little over double what my faulty memory recalled.

The data mentioned on the link is correct but is data from 2003, we have made modest improvements with each year, we are currently up to 20k to 22k handguns per year pistols and revolvers. As far as the new handgun O7810, as it stands now there is a good shot that the first two hundred will be made in March, not 100% positive yet but pretty sure.

For those who think they may be loosing their mind/ memory... Colt's Mfg made 6,593 pistols in 2004. Source (http://www.shootingindustry.com/02pages/SpecRep2.html#Anchor-47857)

Apparently, things have improved recently and they are making more now.

Maybe that was the source I remembered. But just because it's on the internet doesn't mean that it's true.

That is outstanding news. The more they make and sell, the stronger the company gets and the more chances there are that some new products will get made for us to enjoy. Maybe a double action revolver.......Python, Diamondback or maybe a Detective Special? Hey, I'd settle for a King Cobra or an Anaconda.
For some reason, that new pistol is tweaking my interest. Probably Larry and Paul are responsible. Although a crackhead (Colthead in this instance) doesn't need much encouragement to buy a Colt.

I have surely fallen in with "bad company". Last year at this time, I was minding my own business, happy owning only a Colt Trooper and some other pistols. One of the guys at work got me started and I bought a Sig P220. Then I got a bug about a Bright Stainless Python and found this forum.............Now my safes are bursting with Colt's. All this because I bumped into Hunter and the EVIL ONE, OD*. Of course once I was hooked I noticed Paul and Larry lurking about wth their many nice pistols and Slim with the great pics and all was truly lost. These things are coming to my house faster than I can shoot them.

I've started buying nothing but Colts since I've come here as well. I blame everyone including myself for being weak.

Picking up my SCG in the morning! I'm not going to sleep a wink.

I didn't have any Colts until I joined this forum. I just unencumbered myself from my last 2 Springfields at a gunshow on Sunday, But I almost succumbed to another bout of Coltitis, I had to pass up a NIB 9mm series 80 Gv't and a 9mm as new Combat Commander and a perfect Delta Elite. I nearly needed assistance to leave the building, I can still see them in my head! The up side (if there is one) is that all 3 were way overpriced!

John
20th February 2007, 06:55
I can understand leaving the Delta behind, I can even understand leaving the 9mm Government behind, but man, they would have to drag me to take me away from the 9mm Commander!
