G'morning all. I just bought an older (1975ish) Colt Ser 70 5" to refurbish and tinker on. (you'll all be upset with me if I tell you how little I paid for it...it's nice to have friends who aren't good with their money!)
The 'plan' is to have a full size carry gun that's 100% trustworthy to complement my Les Baer Stinger. Right now, it's ugly as sin--most of the bluing has gone south, and the right side grip panel is cracked--she's been rode hard, but fortunately, doesn't appear to have been put up wet. No corrosion anywhere. bore is bright and shiny and no fouling. :D
Mechanically, it seems to be totally stock. No upgrades that I can see. After a thorough inspection, (including complete disassembly, cleaning and reassembly) I took it out for a test run. I put about 200 rounds downrange without a single problem! This is the second used gun I've bought within the last 2 months that runs!!!! Time to buy a lottery ticket!
The only issue I have about this particular Colt is the ejection direction. It seems to toss empties straight up and slightly back...right on top of my head. I adjusted the tension on the extractor after about 10 rds, but it didn't change anything. Before I go replacing anything, what do the gurus think?
