I've given up on trying to find a used XSE Stainless Steel Commander and am now working on maybe ordering a new one. Only question is: Does the current production XSE Commander (#O4012XSE Commander) use a Series 70 or 80 ignition system? While I'm at it, is there anything to recommend not getting one of these?

+1 to paul45.
The only drawback I see with my XSE is that the front serrations marked the inside of my Milt Sparks holster pretty significantly on draw. I use it in my Galco open style holster now. Just watch the inside of molded leather holsters. Otherwise they are well made terrific shooters!

This is not a question of "current production." ALL Colt XS and XSE pistols have the Series 80 firing pin safety.

Aside from the Series 70 model, Gunsite, and WW1 Repro, all Colt's use the 80 series system, correct?

I have one and it is VERY reliable and accurate. I often carry it.

Colts XSE models are one of thier better ideas.
Just wish they'd drop the firing pin safety garb.

I lost my nerve with the Series 80s and went with one of the new Series 70 Reproductions in Stainless. It will match up with a Series 70 I all ready have. Due in here the middle of next week.
Thanks for the comments.

The series 70 is very nice, glad you got one. However, when I read your post that you "lost your nerve on the series 80".....I have to shake my head.....IMO, you are missing out on some nice Colts with your aversion to a non-existent problem.

My Combat Commander XSE is great. While I'm not wild about the front serrations (or the depth of any of the serrations for that matter), I like everything else. Only other issue is that mine doesn't like 8 round mags, and the XSE comes with two of them...

CW, I love all my Colts...Series 70, Series 80, Commanders, Full Size--you name it! I would NOT give up may XSE .45 Stainless or my XSE .38 Super just because they have th Series 80 firing system. Yes, I prefer the non-Series 80, but they ALL function just great. The blued and stainless Series 70 Reproductions are wonderful (just see the posts from Rio Vista Slim) but you sure don't want to miss out on some great Colts with the Series 80 system! My only complaint is that they're a little more difficult to put back together when you do a detailed disassembly! Give one a try! And congratulations on your Series 70 Stainless...post some pictures.

Appreciate the interest. Don't get me wrong, I have nothing against the Series 80s. When I made the post, I didn't consider that I might come across as though I did. My apologies if I offended any Series 80 owners.

None taken! My opinion.... the series 80 parts are a non-issue. However, if a person doesn't want to deal with them....that's OK as well! Let's see the series 70 when it comes in.....

That part's true, cwgilley. The question is, would Slim ever send it back!? ;)
Congrats on your new 70.

Here's a picture of my new XSE. Only 2 weeks old, so I guess it's current production. I did add a Wilson drop-in grip safety and slim grips.

Very nice. Did the drop in safety actually drop in? Which model grip safety did you use?

I ordered part #965-429-111 from Brownells. It did require some work with a small file. You file where it contacts the trigger and frame. I had to remove a little material from the actual frame itself. It was about 2 minutes of filing, but took about 30 minutes, due to fit, file, fit and file some more. :) It was actually a simple procedure, just take your time. I also ordered an Ed Brown bobtail msh too. It will be installed this weekend. :D

Thanks. I put an Ed Brown flat checkered MSH on mine - steel is better than plastic, IMO.
