New RIA 38 Super.

For the last several months, I have been reading all the positive comments about the Rock Island pistols on this site. On Tuesday, I picked up my new 38 Super in bright nickel. I was very impressed with the finish and the tight frame to slide fit.

Today, I got to shoot it. Excellent trigger pull, very accurate, and no feeding problems. Simply put "ITS A HOOT TO SHOOT" I am also impressed with customer service. I sent Ivan a P.M. trying to find a distributor who had a 38Super. He responded the same day.

If it doesn't ruin the finish, I may ask my gunsmith to install some taller sights for my tired old eyes. I am extremely pleased with this weapon. I lookforward to many years of shooting fun with this pistol.

Went back to the range today. I do plan to carry this pistol off-duty. My dept. does not approve 38 super or RIA for duty carry. I found that this pistol does not like hollow point ammo. I will probably have it throated so I can shoot hollowpoints. Also while cleaning the pistol, I found that the pin that holds the barrel link had fallen out. It slid right back in, but I have never seen this happen before. I will have my trusty gunsmith refit another pin. I am not disapointed with these minor problems. This pistol is an excellent bargain for the price.

On a positive note, I am very impressed with the tight groups this pistol shoots. I am a very happy Rock Island owner.

The main source of 38 Super ammo that I have found is Ivan !!

Link pins come in a lot of sizes. Most are press fit, but occasionally you find one that slides out. A quick tap with a punch will stop that.

Sounds like a fine pistol. Keep shooting it !!
