I am late to Colt game, but the first I bought last year, a reissue 70 series, I love. So I have been looking for something "special" and lo and behold I see a two tone beauty. while a little on the pricey side, beautiful none the less.
Pictures later when I get back home.
But I have a couple of questions.
Do all the Special Combat models come with ambi safeties? Can a single side safety be fitted without altering the frame?
To the others who have purchased one lately, or to Mark, the Colt rep. Why did it come with Colt McCormick magazines, instead of Colt branded mags?

Thanks in advance to all who answer.

First let me congradulate you on your new purchase. I have the exact same pistol as you. You can install a single side safety without any frame modification. The only problem is the right grip panel is cut for the tang of the right side safety lever. So you'll probably want to change out the grips when you install the single side safety so the pistol will look correct. To remove the ambi safety remove the slide from the frame, remove the r/h grip panel, with the safety in the engaged posistion pull on the r/h safety lever. It should come right out. Next with the safety lever still in the engaged position take an appropriate sized punch and push on the left safety lever from the r/h side of the pistol. As your pushing with the punch move the safety lever down to the disengaged posistion. It should come right out as well. Pay attention to the plunger pin on the l/h side as the l/h safety lever is what holds it in place and it can take off across the room. Don't ask me how I know this.

Good luck,

Justin

Seems that everyone that has posted in this thread so far has a Colt SCG or will! Me included! They are very nice, aren't they? :D

They sure are. I particularly like the S&A gip safety. Colt did an amazing job in fittment on mine. Almost no gap whatsoever.

Mine shot an average 20 yard group when I got it. I replaced the barrel and bushing with an Ed brown set and she now eats a nice 2" hole at 20 yards! The gun operates flawless and looks fantastic!!

Thanks in advance to all who answer.

Congrat on the new gun! Seems no one has an answer for the mag question!

You did a good job hiding the serial # on the gun but it is on the target too!;) :)

Beautiful gun! You're going to enjoy it a lot!
I have one on hold at my dealers and hope to adopt it soon.
Changing out the safety shouldn't be too big a deal but if you haven't fit one before you might want to have a 'smith do it for you .
My Gunsite came with Wilson mags......but only a standard safety. Different gun of course.

I traded into a two-tone SCG last summer and suddenly, lots of my other .45s just sit there and collect dust, now.
I added a Dawson Precision fiber optic front sight to help the ol' eyes during USPSA matches, and put on Colt rubber grips (guess they're not stocks when they're rubber) to help go faster.
About the only other thing I think of doing is having the slide flats polished like the long-gone Gold Cup I had (and my other, older Colts).
The local shop has a brand-new hard chrome SCG in the case for about $1540. Even though there's no dough in gun cookie jar, I'm still having inappropriate thoughts about it that just won't go away.
At least, now I have less trouble with the office door blowing shut, what with my former match gun, a Springfield Loaded, available for doorstop service.

CherryRiver, seems like we have another very satisfied Colt customer, that SCG is one Ive been lusting for a while.

I know the frame is done in nickel, but is it done in electroless nickel?

Joni Lynn...is it done in electroless nickel?
I'm really not sure, but I know it is durable and doesn't wear off.

Is that an after-market magwell?

I don't know that Colt is putting them out that way.

The SCG comes with a Smith & Alexander magwell. At least all the pics and all the guns I've seen did.

I've seen plenty of SCGs without the magwell over on gunbroker.

Guess I'll be sure I track one down that has it.

I agree with Joni Lynn, It comes standard from the factory with the S&A magwell. If it doesn't have it, it was taken off.
