A bout 18 months ago I found a Colt 1911 at a local dealer, and promptly grabbed it. What was unique about this model is that the slide is " engraved", probably roll engraved with gold inlays. Ejector side has large eagle with spread wings, other side has banner with Colt's Patent Firearms( I'm not sure as to actual wording as gun is at home) and to rear of slide serrations is a small gold rampant colt. Serial # is PRMxxx. It has fixed 3 dot sights, bright slide and frame sides. other parts except for hammer are flat black. Grips apperar to be a laminated gray/black wood with gold Colt medallions. It looked good and was priced about the same as a standard model at that time, so I took it.

Can anyone give me any insight as to what this probably special model might be?

Thanks
Jeff

Does it look something like this?

It sounds like one produced for TALO Distributors Inc.

I think OD* is right...try this site: http://www.taloinc.com/colt.htm#1 . The serial numbers for their Colt Premier Edition Classic II .45 start with PRM like yours. It might be an earlier edition of the one pictured since your grips are different. I know they made at least three different editions of the "Don't Tread on Me" and all had different engraving and grips.

Thanks: That generally looks like it and serial numbers are correct. Like I said earlier mine is two tone with different grips. The one in the picture here is much prettier. Idid not realize that they only made 200 so guess I was lucky in finding it, as well as stumbling across this site this morning. Will try and post some pictures tonight.

Again, Thanks

I just did a Goggle search using the title description from the link. I found a couple at central floridapawn.com and they state grips are ebony, and that only 250 were made in this configuration.
