Just curious. I will probably buy one today, a GI model.

So, is the ejection port lowered and flared?

Thanks

Yes, when compared to my 1943 Remington Rand Govt Model the ejection port is lower and flared, but not to the extent you may see on a target pistol. FWIW, I don't get case mouth damage when my brass ejects.

I'm going down there in one hour and picking up the Rock! I can't wait. I'm going to put some rounds through it tonight. I plan to put 200 through it to check reliability, then I'm going to carry it daily. I need to start looking for a good holster and carry belt, as my glock that I was carrying didn't real need a good holster or belt.

For a belt I really like the Wilderness Instructors belt, and I'm partial to kydex, so I use a Threat Solutions UCR as my holster. This combo is the best there is IMO.

Good luck and let us know how she shoots!

Don't know if that will work for me (wilderness belt). I dress professionally most days, so I will need to buy a dressier belt, at least, but the kydex holster is not a bad idea. I was thinking of getting a combo package from wildbillsconcealment. Anyone have a setup from there?
Thanks

for professional/dress wear, you might look at Don Hume belts:

as well, I use a Don Hume holster:

but then, I'm a leather guy.

Just got it. Looks like new and I paid 335 OTD for it. Tonight I will shoot is some. I can't wait. I've been wanting one of these (1911) for many years. I'll see tonight how good it is on the range. The slide to frame fit is very nice. The trigger pull is real good, too. I guess it will be time to get some literature together so I can learn more about the verenable 1911.

congrats on the Rock!

Auto Mag...I really like the concept of that belt. But do you notice any shifting or settling? Is it very secure if you're running and climbing? Thanks for the input.

Ricky,
Congrats on your Rock and welcome to the family. Give her about 300 or so rounds break in and I think you'll be very happy.

Look through the holster section and you'll find lots of reviews on holsters by some really good makers. A custom holster doesn't cost much more if any than one off the shelf. You'll be able to talk to the maker and he'll help get the one just right for you.

Sir, you made a good decision for the money! Actually, you made a good decision period. I love my own. They're good little guns, with customer support that has no close competition, among mfgrs. who provide some good customer support... You'll meet some of the RIA folks here, INCLUDING the pres of the company! How cool is that???

Far as info goes, you also came to the RIGHT place: there's more info here on the platform than you'll know what to do with, I also came here several months before I got my first 1911/A1 (have bought 8 since then... gifted one of my Rocks to my dad; sold another brand, have 6, including USGI 1911 from 1918)... be sure to check out the main page for WORLDS of information, links, historical data, MAN...

My Rocks are pretty meat and potatoes, or, I should say, me and my dad's Rocks... standard ol' 1911A1s. Mine has Alumagrips on it now; I LOVE the RIA OEM mahagonies!!! My holsters for my 1911s are Galco leather, Horseshoe Leather leather, and a Springfield Armory XD Yaqui I got with a Springer GI45, actually liked and kept.

Here's mine:

It's my secondary carry gun. It's getting to be a pretty even break between it and my primary, especially when I'm visiting at my dad's, and I can carry open a lot out on lands. You WILL like yours, sir.

Welcome aboard! Good to have you.

I love this gun already. I am thinking of buying some alumagrips. They look nice. Or, fake ivory. Man, those look nice. Can't wait to get out and shoot it. Been carrying Glock for some time. I got rid of it today. I hate the trigger, and it just doesn't have that nostalgia.

India0311, the belt is a very heavy leather and very well made. I have had 2 of them for about 2 years and wear at least one of the belts daily. No stretch or wear yet. They are very secure when running. I do not do alot of climbing so I cannot answer that part. :) :)

At the TOP of the forums index, you can find a horizontally placed entry labeled FAQ (of course it is Frequently Asked Questions). There are instructions there.
