i was looking at the threads in the ria barrel and thought that ... to me that they were almost not there... i compaired it to a old used ww2 1911 barrel... and the ww2 one has deeper threads...

is this normal???

shorty01, the finish will not effect the way that it shoots!! Shoot it and you will really like it. If not then just send it to me!!! :D :D :D

sure i know what but when i spend my money on somthing i expect it to look as it should... plus it will be a display piesce for my World War 2 reenacting... im bithing my lip and living with the horrid parkerized 2 tone but the green splotches and the brown gunk around the mag release is unacceptable...

Thanks

i posted about it yesterday... havent heard anything yet...

but yeah the ria cames at a great price but not when you have to go out and repark it...
my friend has a ria too... hes lucky and got the pistol before the slide metal change and the frame and slide match... but other than that i dont want people to tell me here that what i have is normal cause my friends ria has a flawless beautiful finish...
its not just the green areas but the small pitting and the odd cosmiline/rust stuff on it to that wont come off...

other than all of that im sure the shooting part wont be a problem..... "I hope" lol with my luck

im not sure if an even parkerizing can be done without alot of work timing of the bath.., since the change to the new stronger slide italian steel.. the 2 tone i guess if i have to, ill live with it... at least i got a parkerized barrel... if i could get a matching toned pistol id love it... but the main thing is the odd brown stain on it and the green splotches.....

i hope its not too much trouble..
how and who do i send it to...
would i be getting the same pistol back or new one... would i get the pistol sent to me? or a ffl again..... also the wait time? to get it back?
i appreciate it

thanks again

note: i got it yesterday its never been fired

shorty01,

I guess I'm dead late on this issue, but what is this "better steel slide"/ "new slide metal" that you keep asking about? Was there ever bad steel? I think I missed that topic.

shorty01
8th February 2007, 23:33
its all good steel.... i was wondering why the pistol was 2 tone my friends is not... i asked awhile back... someone from RIA said that a year or so back they changed the steel slide to a better italian steel.... thats why the slide is darker now than matcdhing totally like on the old ria 1911s...

the ria pistols has chrome barrels then blued and in the last quarter of 06 they started to parkerize the barrels.... i was goign to have to buy another barrel and have it fitted but i got one of the pistols that came with the parkerized barrel....

i just hope i get this new one parkerized as well

There are some of the 1911 makers who do make pretty good WWII replicas. The Springfield GI series looks like it comes pretty close.

It seems popular to ship it disassembled and call it gun parts if asked (no one seems to ask). The main reason folks like UPS want next-day-air is that way it spends the least time in their possession and is touched by the smallest number of people. This is thought to reduce the chance of theft by UPS employees. It also helps if you and the recipient can dream up a company name in the shipping destination address that is generic and does not indicate firearms. Example: ship a long skinny box to Remington Arms and everyone will know what it is.
