Got my 1911 today. The store had 10% off today... and I got the last one...
The barrel is parkerized which is a plus. and its 2 tone ... after seeing it up close like this it really is a turn off... but its a cheap 1911 so i guess ill just have to bite it and live with it...
im stripping it and cleaning it since it looks to be submerged in grease... a good thing... and it looks like i have either cosmoline on it that wont come off. or a shoddy parkerizing job
any ideas???

Nope, the pictures aren't coming through. So the gun is two-tone? I would clean off all the grease and then oil it down. This should help give it a uniform color. I think you will be in love after you shoot it. Have fun!

Checked the pics. Parkerized finish suits the 1911. Looks to me a bit better than an Armscor of equivalent model.

I can't tell from the photo if it is the finish or on the finish but I used rubbing alcohol to clean mine. Took off all the oil made it a light gray.If you keep up a light coat of oil over the entire gun the 2 tone will not be so noticeable. I have been oiling mine for awhile and it seems to be darker now. Once you shoot this thing you will forget all about the 2 tone. Good luck with your new Rock.

Hi
A light coat of oil is a good idea on any finish from time to time. You can wipe it down after you apply it. The oil helps keep the finish stable.

Mine doesn't have any pitting. The brown stain looks like it might be light rusting, but it might be residue from the cosmoline?? Mine had something like that in a couple spots, but it went away after a good cleaning and oiling. I think you might want to get Ivan to look at those photos.

everyone praised the finish but mine is odd... the frame is gray with a shiny graishgreen type finish its gray but areas look greenlike... the cosmoline/?? wont come off, with gun oil soaked patch and alot of rubbing... and in that hole there is alot of that brown stain... is it rust? if so and i cant get it out if like a repair and refinish or a new frame... id hate the idea of that rust...if it is to slowly spread... but it might not be rust... i think whoever parkerized it didnt properly strip it before dipping it in the solution... also the finger type cutout on the other side of the frame has pitting... ive never heard of these having pitting due to that all owners have praised the finish... better than springfield? well springfield or anyother.. i would think that no one sells a new gun with pitting...

ivan?anythought to what the brown gunk is??? i see the slide is darkgray and the frame is a lighter gray but does the frame supposed to have greenish sploches and marks everywhere???
and over all its as if the frame has a grayish green over spray from a spray can
sorry if im complaining but i don't like spending money on somthing half finished its a waste of money when you have to refinish something when the factory didn't finish the pistol properly...
