I recently sent my Springfield TRP back to Customer service for malfunctions that I have been having. In 650 round fired I had several failures of the slide not going into battery. The slide would stop about 1/4 " from lock-up usually a tap on the rear of the slide would fully seat the round but sometimes I would have to rack the round out and seat a new one. This happened about 6-7 times in 650 rounds. All of the ammo used was factory ball ammo (Rem UMC) and a few times with Win. JHP. It occured with a combination of Wilson and CMC mags (all new) and would happen at different times in the firing string. My first thought was that it was extractor tension since some of the fired brass had a "deep" mark from the extractor but rather than mess with it I sent it back to Springfield. I called today to check on the guns progress and Springfield told me that they had to ream the chamber and reset the barrel. I'm assuming that the weapon had a tight chamber that was causing the round not to seat fully. How common is this in a new factory 1911?
On the positive side since the gun was already up there I am having the Custom Shop install Heinie straight "8's" ,serrate the rear of the slide, serrate the top of the slide @ 40 LPI and refinish. Deb told me I should have the gun back in about 2 weeks.....not bad considering that they recieved it on Jan 15th!
