Remington Rand? 1911A1? And a six-digits serial number? I am not sure it makes sense, RRs and A1s should have a 7 digits number.

Could it be a 'WGP'....??? Sounds like you have a Colt M1911 frame, and a RRand M1911A1 slide combination. Major Walter G. Penfield was the Army Ordnance inspector up to s/n 101,500 appx. in 1914.
Pictures would help consideribly.....

Military M1911A1 production started at serial number 700,000 by Colt. Additionally RRand and Ithaca had contracts that put them in the 6 digit serial number range with Colt until mid 1943.
Singer also had 6 digits in their serial numbers, but some would argue that the 'S' prefix would make them 7 digit.....Also some argue that US&S production started at 958101 and not 1041405.

sorry, i am not smart enough to send pictures. i think i do have a mixed gun.i have a colt frame with a rr slide. oh well, it is tight and very accurate.it probably is not worth a lot but i like it. i got it, 2 clips, a box of shells, an old army holster, and a usmc clip holder for $500. it may not be a steal, but it feels better and shoots better than my colt series 70.thanks for all the input.

On the brighter side, most any USGI pistol that is functional, mismatched or not will yield $500 or more in most regions these days.
