Can I substitute my Norinco 1911a1 hammer for a Commander rounded one? Thanks, THUD.-

Hook angles may be different and the strut may need changing. But other than that, there should be no problem (with the exception being that the round hammer may not work with the grip safety).

The big thing will be the grip safety, the GI style won't work..........unless you modify it. I've done a few now, and they work great.........

Here's a pic of one I did from a stock SA Mil-Spec grip safety. I added a Wilson Commander hammer.

There is an article in M1911.ORG Home Page, in the Technical Issues folder, on this subject, you might want to check it out. As Wichaka said, the main issue is the grip safety, but that can be easily fixed.

Thank You everybody guys. I guess no maker manufactures a drop-in rounded hammer for 1911a1 then? I mean without the need of modifyng the hammer or the gun...

The answer would be ........no. The rounded hammer would hit the grip safety, which would stop the hammer from going low enough for the slide to pass over it during cycling. Instead it would come to a dead stop on the grip safety, allowing the slide to wedge itself onto it.

You can buy the grip safety already made like the ones I've done. Check out brownells Colt section and get one for a newer Commander, and I think some of the enhanced Combat Elites had the dished out grip safeties as well. Or just call Colt direct.
