would like to replace the one piece guide rod and spring,with a conventioal spring,follower and cap.any suggestions ie weight mfg. etc. greatly appreciated.thanks,

Any surplus or new manufacture will work. Spring weight is 18lbs, you van buy the parts from Brownells. Probably won't cost more then $30.00 with shipping included if you get the generic parts and a Wolff spring. Here are the part numbers for a Govt sized 1911. #100-000-884, 634-000-006 and 969-419-180.
