I recently purchased a used 1911 .45 auto with a Colt slide on a Para Ordance Frame. For some reason the slide goes past battery and there is about an 1/8" gap which is unsightly and perhaps may affect shooting. Is the change of the barrel link what will bring it into alignment? In Brownells catalog there are three links that are oversize, a +3, +6 and +9 (Page 98). I wonder if changing the link will fix the problem?

Any thoughts???

Look at your thumb safety.... When you engage it, does it fit nicely in the notch in the slide, or does it hit somewhere??? If it appears to be swinging up, centered in the "V" when on, then your slide might be in the right place. There could be that the frame needs to be blended to the slide....

GOOD...

NOT SO GOOD...

The link would not affect where your slide ends up. With the slide fully foreward, the barrel is locked into the slide, and the slide stop pin is resting against the lower feet or "lugs" of the barrel. If it is a barrel problem, it is probably an issue with the dimensions of those lower lugs. Wheather they are worn, or just fitted wrong, it is hard to tell...
