Would anyone know the retail prices of the commercial 1911 .45's
from 1935 to 1940? Thanks.

I have a reprint of a 1936 Sedgley catalog showing a GM at $35 and a NM at $40 I believe. I will try to find it but that's easier said than done.

...1936... a GM at $35 and a NM at $40....According to the CPI calculator at http://www.bls.gov/cpi that would be $508 and $580 today (well, as of last year).

Hmm, I'm guessing that the government doesn't factor Colt's current catalog into the CPI calculation. Ya think?

From a October 1941 Colt catalog with retail price list;

Government Model ... $44.75
National Match (fixed sights) ... $47.25
National Match (adjustable sights) ... $52.75

Same prices for these pistols chambered in Super .38.

During the depression, high end goods actually sold for more than the SRP. In 1935, Colt's list price for a GM was $36.75 but Shapleigh Hardware Co (and others) sold them for $58.70. A NM was $65.20, even though the SRP was $40.75.
