My brother-in-law recently died, and left me his Springfield Long Slide 45, as well as S&W Model 36 .38.

Anyway, I would like to convert the Long Slide to a standard 45 or perhaps even a 9mm (I currently have a Glock M26 that I carry in MH). I contacted Springfield and they said if they did it, it would start at $750 - and that's a non-starter. I would rather sell the gun if that was my only option.

So what are my options in terms of who have conversion kits, and what do folks recommend.

TIA,

For $750 you could get a whole brand new Springfield loaded model in 5".
Sorry, I have no good ideas on that.

no one makes a conversion Kit you would have to buy a slide and barrel and fit them to the gun

Springfields prices are a tad bit to high i called about having a slide replaced that soemone swiss cheesed installing a red dot mount they wanted more than i paid for the gun

Needless to say my trophy match still has a swiss cheesed slide and shoots very well

I wonder how a Caspian slide would mate up with the SA frame? It would still require all the parts/sights/etc.

I've recently seen 2 complete uppers on Ebay for sale at a reasonable price...and NEW!..
As to the question re mate of a Caspian upper to a SA frame...no problem.

If you decide to go with the conversion, I would be interested in the upper.

The Springfield longslide .45 is in very short supply (when I called them in July, the word was, "I haven't seen one in year, and don't know when we might see more"). You should be able to sell the .45, and buy a Springfield 9mm, if that's what you want.
