The crown on the briley barrel I purchased (for my essex frame, slide build) is not concentric to the bore. Aside from the occasional flyer the gun is super accurate(1.25" groups).

My Question is, does anyone think recrowning will cure the flyers?

I will be using this for competing in a few different types of shoots this summer and flyers are, well, counterproductive.

The bore is exactly concentric to the outer diameter of the barrel, but when you look at the slight flat around the outer edge of the crown (between crown angle and outer diameter of the barrel) it is wider on one side than the other.

HEY LUBALOY,
Didnt mean to offend you with my ignorance.

If the crown isn't right then it would probably benfit from a recrown.
It's even more important in a rifle. The benchrest guys are fanatical about their crowns.

1.25 inch groups at what range? If it's 25 yards, I think I'd be inclined to leave it alone unless you're headed for serious bullseye competition. The occasional flyer could be due to anything...from your hand/eye, to the ammo.

Just FWIW...Jerry Keefer and Bob Brown are in the BE game, and build for all the accuracy they can manage...but when I refit a pistol and rebarrel...if I get an inch at 25 yards, I'd do backward handsprings if I was able. Most of mine hover around the 2 inch mark at 25...but I can be happy with 2.5 inches for the type of guns that I work with.

thanks 1911,
It'll only do that w/ some high power target hollow points I have.
I can,t get my lswc to fly that good, but I'm gettin about 2" groups with them.
