OK I have a Ejercito Argentino 1911 .45acp. I just got done cleaning it, oiling and putting it back together. So I throw in a magazine and rack the slide back to chamber a round. The round gets stuck. It will not push up from the magazine into the barrel unless i do it real fast and then it feels like its so rough when it finally goes in. I have tried 3 different magazines. Any ideas what could be wrong?

Hi
Is this the first time you have had the pistol apart?

One thing to try would be to disassemble the pistol again and reassemble. Maybe something didn't go in right the last time, like the slide stop not through the link of the barrel.

Hi
Check the slide stop as mentioned and if that does not fix it then pull the extractor. If things chamber ok with the extractor out you have an answer.
Are you chambering real rounds or snap caps? I have found that snap caps often have a problem chambering when nothing else does.

Hi
*Always* be careful chambering real rounds. That goes double in a pistol that has a problem.....

Whenever I'd been in the situation where something worked before I took it apart, then doesn't after I've put it back together (an old lawnmower of mine comes painfully to mind) then I ALWAYS blame the cause on me.
We're all anxiously awaiting to hear the results!

ok the extractor is the piece that slides out after you pull the firing pin out correct?

ok took the extractor out and firing pin and it still has the same problem, its like it doesnt want to feed the round up enough to slide in the chamber easily, broke it down and put it all back together and even oiled the extractor and firing pin. its chambering a round now. you have to slide the slide back fast for it to do it then its still feels rough when it goes in. if you do it slowly then the round gets stuck and will not chamber.

Hi
Is the magazine fully seated? The base of the magazine should be flush with the bottom of the frame. If the magazine catch is messed (or a few other things) the magazine may not be all the way "up".
A quick check of the slide stop / lug is to see if the barrel pushes way forward when the slide is back.
The other possibility is you are getting a "normal" three point jam and the pistol is put together just fine ...
A picture of the situation might help a a lot.

If you reload or know someone that does, make a few "dummy" rounds. That is load a few rounds with the bullet that you are shooting but NO powder or primer. It will save you from a possible injury or at least an embrassing moment.

Hi
Sure sounds like the slide stop pin is not working with the link to keep the barrel in place.

How does the barrels lower lug fit in its slot?
if its size for size/close fit,a loose link pin could be dragging in there?

Hey guys, before we jump to any conclusions here, let's try and make sure that TideguyinVA is following the proper loading procedure.
Please do the followings:
Load a mag with 3-4 rounds. Lock your slide back with the slide stop and put the mag in the gun. Release the slide stop. Does the round chambers OK? If not tell us where the round ends up when the jam occurs (where the nose of the round is and where the rear end of the round is).
Second, do the same thing with a fully loaded magazine.
If you want not to use the slide stop, you can just pull the slide back from its locked position, and release it abruptly. Do not let your hand follow the slide forward, just pull it back as far as it will go and let it ram forward.
Keep us posted.

I tried both ways and the round chambered fine both ways no problems. after i took the extractor out and cleaned all that it seemed to work better. i think we solved the problem. altho when rack the slide slowly it gets stuck sometimes. like in the picture above. that is from rack the slide slowly and watching. the end result the round doesnt seat all the way in the barrel. like said before prolly my newbie mistake but i guess thats how i am learning. i would like to thank everyone here for their help. i really appreciate it.
