I am from West Virginia and I know that Virginia honors West Virginia's concealed permits. BUT I work close to DC so I think the county laws are different around here. Does anyone have a link for Virginia's carry laws?

You could try this website: http://www.vsp.state.va.us/cjis_cwp.htm
I did a google search and got quite a few good places. Good luck

I found this website http://www.packing.org/ but it doesn't say anything about being in the DC area. I emailed an NRA instructor here in Virginia to find out if some counties are restricted.

The Virginia page at packing.org should list a couple of people you can contact for info. I believe VA has a statewide preemption law, which means that counties and municipalities cannot pass therir own laws that are more strict than the state's. But don't take my word on that, confirm.
There has been a problem with the airport authority trying to overrule state law and prohibit carry anywhere on airport property -- which includes the highway running past Dulles Airport. I believe the VA gun ownersĄ group has taken them to task on that and it may have been resolved by now, but again ... check.
DC of course is DC -- check your guns at the river.

Thanks for your input!
That is what I heard. But I heard that existing county laws weren't going to be overturned due to the state laws... I emailed an instructor here in Virginia to see what he has to say about the situation.

Hockey,
"Reciprocity" is the term you're looking for. Fairfax and Falls Church are the Counties/Cities you're concerned about. As said before, DC is a "check your weapons at the bridges" city.

The INTERESTING thing is...open carry is legal throughout the Commonwealth, as I figure it. But I'm no lawyer.
That would be with the folks here: http://www.vcdl.org/
I am also educating myself on this. I'm an active duty Army officer living in Prince William Co. temporarily whilst serving my time (purgatory?) at the Pentagon. Virginia is one of FEW, if any, states who allow me to apply for and GET a CCW permit although I'm not a resident. So, I applied and am waiting "processing"!
BUT...open carry only in an establishment that serves alcohol.
We must know the laws, and I wonder what consitutes "open" vs. "concealed". Can I just take my jacket off and "voila!" to the limp-wristed restaurant folks in Alexandria?"
Not sure I answered your question, but I'm with you, brother. (My family is from Upshur Co. WV BTW)
