Folks,

I am in need of a very specific 1911 barrel and hope that some of the membership here can help. Here are the particulars:

6" with relief for a longslide.

Chambered to 400 Corbon.

Bull-style barrel.

Unramped.

Non-threaded and non-ported.

I have tried all of the usual suspects - Barsto, Kart, Jarvis, KKM, EFK, Schuemann, and Storm Lake. I even checked with Briley and Entreprise. No such luck. For one reason or another, I just cannot seem to find this exact combination. Does anyone know who I can contact about the possibility of making a barrel in this configuration? FWIW, I plan on using this barrel as a conversion for a Springfield Longslide.

Thanks in advance.

I would get a Schumann barrel... All of their barrels are sold with the chambers unfinished.... Hand one of their .400 barrels and a .400 Cor Bon chamber reamer to your smith, and VOILA!!!! Your new 6" Cor Bon barrel.... I don't think you will find someone selling one already made....

Thanks for the reply. I took a look at Schuemann and from what I could gather from their website, they do not offer an un-ramped bull barrel in 6". Everything I saw had either the Clark/Para or Nowlin/Wilson ramp applied. I will be doing all of the fitting and modifications myself as this project is for a class at the gunsmithing school I am attending. I am also wondering about a couple of other possibilities:

1.) Is machining the frame to accept ramped barrels overly difficult, provided I have access to the necessary equipment and tools? I would also be under expert gunsmith supervision.

2.) If I bought a barrel that meets all of my criteria but chambered in 40 S&W, could I ream it out to .400 Corbon? I have seen 6" 40 S&W bull barrels available.

With proper tools, and a good smith watching over your sholder, I see no reason why you would not be able to add a ramped barrel... However, since this is a class you are taking, it might be too much of a chore for your smith to try and tackle during class... Is there any way you can get ahold of him and ask? that might help in your decision...

So, I have to ask... Why .400 Cor Bon for a class build? (or any other build for that matter?) Are you using it just because it is a powerfull load? You probably won't end up shooting your gun much because of the expense of the ammo.... You could make a 6" .38 super and run +P rounds and come close....

To me, .400 Corbon seemed like a fairly logical choice since the SA Longslide comes chambered in .45 ACP. This way I could learn how to fit a barrel, get another caliber to shoot, and not have to change much (recoil spring) otherwise. If I went with something like .38 Super, I'd have to get another slide, new magazines, and various small parts. I fully intend on keeping and using the stock barrel so I'll be able to shoot more reasonably priced .45 ACP ammo.

The Cor Bon is a higher pressure round, and I believe you would need a different recoil spring(not sure)... If you plan on switching the barrels back and forth, you might just want to gowith an un-ramped one, Otherwise you will have to buy two, one in .400 and one in .45 with ramps.... I am still hoping someone will chime in on the chamber reaming thing. I am almost positive you can take a .40 S&W barrel and re-chamber it to fit the Cor Bon....
