I have recently received some very nice, dark, and well infused with 'pores", Brazialian Rosewood blanks. I am planning to make some grips for my 1911s, and wondered what you might have seen and liked. I was thinking of keeping them simple, as were those beautiful ebony grips.
Any ideas?

As a lot of you already know, I like half and half stippling as done by Hakan of Norway. Maybe you could do something like what he does. Just a thought.
(You can see a bunch of his grips if you search for posts started by me.)

From my experience, as long as you have textured MSH and front straps, textured grips are unnecessary. I have smooth grips on two of my pistols, which I use for carry and competition. I love the look of the tulip wood and ebony on mine. Checkering, or other texturing hides the natural figure and defeats the purpose of the intrinsic beauty of the wood.
If you have an un-cut front strap, rough grips are a must.

I agree... If you have a truly beautifull piece of wood, Let it be seen. Checkering would just blur them.

I agree, if the front strap is textured (covered with skateboard tape, checkered or whatever) and the mainspring housing is checkered (25 or 30 lpi preferably), I do not have a use for checkered grips, actually I prefer the smooth ones, plus the wood grain and the colors show so much better.

I concur with John on this completely...
Smooth grips in exotic wood is just plain beautiful against blue, black, or SS finishes. I especially like smooth grips in Tulipwood for SS 1911's...

I appreciate your input - and the opinion is smooth, let it show. So - that is what I will do.
Thanks, all
