i have a 99% complete newborn. while running a few mags through it, i noticed some vexing patterns. it basically cycles as it should, nicely accurate -minus front sight- but destroys brass. the brass has a dent on the underneath, that is at six o'clock. when hand cycling the rounds return with the fmj actually pushed down into the case. :o
the slide and mag is usgi, frame is ria, and the match barrel and link is egw. if that sheds any light on the matter. thanks for the help, it is much appreciated.

Howdy Skunk.
When you release the slide to chamber the top round in a full mag...do you hear a distinctive "ka-chunk" sound that you can also feel as the slide goes to battery?
The damaged brass...Is it a crescent-shaped mark just behind the case mouth, and about 1/8th inch long?

i do hear the "sound," the mark is parallel to the rim and perhaps a shade more than 1/8th inch. i would say you described it well. at first i thought contact with the frame, then mag height. am now thinking barrel throat.? thanks for the help.

Sounds like you've got a classic 3-Point Jam...aka "Stem Bind"...though the former is the more technically accurate description. There are reams of text explaining what it is...what causes it...and what to do about it. Fairly simple to cure in most cases...but a real hair-puller in a few. Search for bot terms, and put on a pot of coffee. You'll be readin' for a while... :)
