Hi all,

Does anyone know if Pachmayr makes an ambidextrous wood/rubber wraparound grip? If not, has anyone modified it themselves for ambi safeties?
I have heard that Hogue's wraparound has a "knockout" portion for an ambi safety, but I really like the feel and look of the Pachmayr better.

The ones you are talking about are called "American Legend" grips... I believe that they are ambi cut.... You could always call and ask.... Their contact info is here.... http://www.pachmayr.com/pachmayr/index.htm

I don’t think they make the wraparound with the ambi safety cut out. I even ordered one from Springfield Armory and they said they cut it out themselves. So I orderd the Pachmayr Ambi rubber grips and tried to modify it myself. It was a big mistake on my part. There is metal embedded in the rubber which made it hard to cut out. The Dremel was working well until my battery died. Then I got in a hurry and messed mine up. (Don’t start the project two hours before a competition!) You can do it if you just take your time.

I ended up putting the Hogue wraparound on my Kimber. Ended up my dad had two different sets of Hogue grips, one a hardwood with fingergrooves that didn't feel right, and the rubber wraparound with finger grooves. I have to say, that after trying the rubber finger grooves again, it actually feels pretty good. My Kimber is going back into the shop in a week or so to have a Wilson Combat ambi safety put on it, and the Hogue has a cutout for the ambi safety. Thanks for the replies and help. BTW, one more option that I found out about is that Pearce makes a finger grip insert that goes in under the Grip panels. Found out about this AFTER I put on the Hogue, but if it helps anyone in the future, you can get it off MidwayUSA or Pearce's website.
