Are there any vendors out there that sell Colt grips with the colt medallion or do these need to be purchased directly from Colt??

I have always had good luck on ebay getting factory grips. Give them a try.

Looks interesting but I haven't tried it yet. Yet another forum member posted another site that had wood and other grips with Colt medallions, but I can't find the link. Hopefully they will repost.

I've got about 10 pairs, smooth and checkered, all with medallions, gold and silver. I've picked them up at gun shows and off of eBay. I like the older style, like from Series 70 stuff. If you don't find what your looking for, give me a shout, I might have something you would like. Good luck!

This addy will take you directly to the Colt stocks.

Some come in Colt packaging, while others don't, depends on the vendors, Colt doesn't make their stocks.

Gotta put the word out for Big Buck Enterprises. Absolutely fantastic Colt medallion grips in all forms (checkered, double diamond, smooth, etc). The do silver or gold medallions. They make a great set of grips. Just ordered a set of smooth black grips with gold medallion for my NRM stainless Government Model. Can't wait for those babies to show up!
Then I gotta figure out this whole posting pictures thing...

Thank you all for the info. My govt XSE and Lt Wt XSE would look much better with medallions. Why Colt doesnt do this is beyond me.

Why Colt doesnt do this is beyond me.
Because people complained they didn't like the looks of the medallions and replaced them with double diamonds.
Colt just can't win. ;)

OD, you're kidding about complaints about the medallions, aren't you? I have never, ever heard of anyone complaining about medallions. Always seemed to me it was a cheesy cost cutting measure.
Nope, never heard, "Gee I really hate those medallions! I wish they'd put on a pair of cheap rubber grips instead!"
First thing I have to do with a new Colt is purchase a set of wood medallion grips for it. I'd rather pay an extra $10 per pistol and have Colt do it for me.

No I'm not kidding, work behind the counter and you'd be surprised to hear what people whine about. We heard it all the time people complaining that Colt should go back to the double diamond stocks, I don't believe I said people complained they didn't have rubber stocks.

Perhaps it's because the first Colt 1911-type pistols that I owned (in the 1970s) were all equipped with wooden stocks with medallions. Whatever the reason, I replaced all of the issued stocks on my current group of Colts with ones similar to those pictured in the lower photograph.
Model 04091U, fresh from the box.

The same pistol with CDNN Colt-licensed medallion stocks.

I just happen to prefer the appearance of the pistol with genuine wood, and the Rampant Colt medallion.

I have never ever heard of anyone ever complaining about Colt medallioned grips in my 40+ years of Colt ownership, buying, selling, and trading...if anything, all I have ever heard is that 99.999% of Colt buyers want the pistols coming with medallioned grips...who are these folks?

Maybe not in your experience, but I have half a dozen or more take-offs because people want double diamonds.

I suppose there will be those, who take every opportunity to find fault with anything and anyone; Colt medallions included...to be fair, the Colt medallions are OK in appearance, but I would love to see those medallions done up in antique, much like the Wilson Combat medallions on their grips; I was told they cost about a dollar to make. Have the medallions re-designed, put them on double diamond grips in coco bolo, ebony, walnut, and rosewood, and I would buy them by the dozens...how about it Gen. Keys?
Double diamond stocks w/ medallions are available now and you could bet someone would complain about the Colt medallions being "tarnished."

I like them tarnished....much like antiqued....those you have pictured are the ones available from CDNN....btw Dan, what do you do with the "takeoffs"? What have you, and what price?
Question...I notice there is a relief cut for the magazine catch on both sides...any reason for that?
I have no idea why they're cut twice for the magazine catch.
what do you do with the "takeoffs"? What have you, and what price?
I pencil the guns serial number on the back of the panels, if they're off my guns, if they're "take-offs" I put them in my spare stocks box. I just checked, I'm down to 5 sets, I gave a friend a set and let another set go with the pistol when I traded it.

I am Colt crazy, so I like the medallions. I keep the rubber ones on the pistols most of the time, they were cheap, hold up well and have the horse on them. The revolvers I have, I try to find wood medallion stocks for them if I can, the original walnut are my favorites as long as they have a medallion on them. I only put them on occasionally, most of the time they have rubber ones with medallions on them. I am always on the hunt for walnut medallion stocks for my revolvers. The Diamondback walnut stocks are hard to find now, since they've been out of production for some time now. I am especially fond of the square bottom ones.
I carry Colt 1911's and Colt Revolvers, I like for people to see I have a Colt in the holster, then we can trade barbs about that piece of junk I'm carrying (S&W wheelgun people are usually the most caustic about Colt wheelguns, oh how I LOVE to irritate them) or I get an opportunity to chat with a fellow Colt afficianado.
