Does anyone know how thick our stock grips are? Are they 1/4'' or are they smaller?

I don't have any calipers, but from looking at them I'd say they were about 3/16".

Hey guys are the grips on the PT1911 any different in size or thickness than a standard 1911 stock? I heard something about the grip screws being smaller and maybe shorter?

I put a pair of factory wood Colt grips on mine to see what it would look like, so I'd say that they are the same.

As I've posted before, the only difference I can find is that the screw heads are larger and will not fit most aftermarket grips.
Here are head measurements I took:
Wilson hex head - .271
Taurus factory -.294
unk stainless - .273
The easiest thing is to buy a new set of screws and keep the Taurus grips and screws together.

Thank you for all of the information guys. You have been a huge help. The reason I brought it up is because I would like to order a set of the Carbon Creation CF grips and I am not sure if I should order their standard size or the ultra thin.
Which size would be the closest to the stock PT1911 grips?

Hey guys, I just put a set of Smith & Alexander Tulipwood grips on my Taurus and used the factory screws. The screws hold the grips on just fine, but they do protrude out just enough to feel with your thumb while holding the pistol. See the pic -

It gives the thumb a slight swell to rest on.
I put a Wilson ambidexterous safety on it temporarily until I get the factory safety out to put in a friends newly aquired pistol as he is left handed.

The point I made was that the factory screws are too large to fit INTO the grip mounting holes on most grips.
It sounds like you have the screw heads holding on the grip edge only.
As far the thickness of the Taurus grips, I get .226 measured across the center of the mounting holes and .186 across the center of the logo.

Thank you Mike. Those are the numbers I needed.

You were right Mike, I found an old set with a smaller head that fit flush with inside the S & A grips. I thought that Gunner777 had asked if the Taurus screws were long enough to secure thinker grips, my mistake.
