Stumbled across an Internet site today offering replacement barrels for 1911s for $57 -- doesn't say by whom they are made. Does this sound like a reasonable price for a replacement barrel for a beater/truck gun?
Same place is offering a complete rebuild kit -- all springs, new barrel, new slide, supposedly everything except the grip frame -- for $299. That sounded interesting until I saw that the slide has front serrations, which I find aesthetically bothersome and functionally unnecessary.
How's the price, though?

Post the site and we'll take a look at it.

Take a look at the Jarvis made barrel in the www.danwessonfirearms.com (http://www.danwessonfirearms.com) listed as "Match" barrel. I've had no problems with mine.

Hawkmoon,
Just received a flier from Marstar in Canada. They carry Colt and Norinco parts. The list a new 1911-A1 Chrome Lined , Mil-Spec barrel in 5" for 64.50. Not sure if this is in Canadian dollars or U.S. Their phone number in Ontario is 888-744-0066 Toll Free. I ordered 2 Colt extractors from them a couple of weeks or so ago. Good people to deal with. I will order from them again. [url]www.Marstar.CA i believe is the website.

Stumbler are these over sized match fir barrels? Are the chambers short cut?

"Drop-In" (that means less work to fit) No problems with chambering or extracting.

I bought a NM barrel on ebay a while ago, and quickly discovered that I was out of my league, both from skills and from the tooling expense. So I looked around a bit and found that Midway sells the Springfield Armory 2 piece barrel for $65 regular price. Bushing was about 12 bucks more. Came with link and pin, and dropped right into my SA slide and essex frame. What sold me was the buyer feedback on their site. Others had discovered it and thought it a good value. For the less than 10 bucks more, I would go with the name brand. JMHO, from a newbie...
