OK, All you 1911 tinkerers, here is the $64K ? Who makes the best after market parts for a build or modifying job and I want the companies name and website. Please break it down for each part, Sear, Hammer, Grip Safety, MSH, etc. I already know what springs to get WOLFF!!! I learned that here but, everone talks about so many different parts and there seem to be no clear concensus.

Wilson Combat.

Hammer: Ed Brown or Berryhill custom (the first one is perfect, the second one is closer to a Colt Commander hammer, but needs a lot of work to get a decent trigger pull).

Sear: either Wilson Combat or Ed Brown.

Disco: Ed Brown

Grip safety: Even though my pistols have the Wilson ones, I'd rather have the Ed Brown one.

MSH: Guncrafters for a flat one (it includes a hidden lanyard loop) or Wilson Combat for an arched one. If you like Cobra Carry snake skin treatment, get an Ed Brown one.

Springs: Wolff or ISMI.

Thumb Safety: Wilson

Trigger: Colt's solid black plastic ones.

Mag release: Ed Brown slightly extended one.

Slide Stop: I liked the Ed Brown checkered ones, but they no longer make these. So I am not sure which one to recommend. Definitely not Wilson, I hate that design. Nighthawk's one looks a little better.

Barrel bushing: EGW's with matching, initialized recoil spring plug.

Sear spring: Colt's

I think that's it.

John, John, John...
After all the discussion on here, I can't believe that you forgot one very important part...

The oversized firing pin stop from EGW with the square bottom.

not too demanding, eh? Try the search function - your current query is unlikely to produce any greater "concensus" [sic] than is available with a few minutes patience and the search options. Google will also provide web sites if they're not self evident.

LoRL, nobody is perfect buddy!

Well, you will have to do some work for yourself on that one. If you go to the Home Page, and select Parts from the menu at left, all the part makers will be listed. Next to each name, there is an A in a cycle. Click on it and you will get the company's contact details etc.

Some items that weren't mentioned (non GI original):

Pin sets - I like EGW here...
Barrels/bushing - my favorite is Bar-Sto match barrels & bushings...
Trigger -- STI or Dlask...
Sear springs = Clark (4 prong)...

Oh yes, one more thing. If you can find any original Lissner barrel anywhere, grab it. If not Schuemann makes some of the best ones I've ever tried and so does Barsto. But I hear that the wait for Barsto is somewhat too long (14 weeks?).

But I hear that the wait for Barsto is somewhat too long (14 weeks?).I've had a Bar-Sto 9mm barrel ordered since October 19th...they said " It generally takes about 14-16 weeks from the date of your order before barrels are ready to be shipped out, as we make all of our barrels custom (from scratch) for each order that we receive." Should be here in a couple of weeks ---but I'm going to follow up to be sure!

Between EGW (Evolution Gun Works) and Cylinder and Slide you can get most everything you need and they are barstock.
John, EGW slidestops are almost the only checkered ones out there--Brownells also has one by EMC but they haven't been finished quite as well as the EGW.

I know that Ivan has checkered slide stops as well, but they are kind of thick at the pad area. I think EGW ones are the same, but I can never be trusted so early in the morning.

Bar-Sto barrel do require patience (after the order, I mean)...

We order six at a time for the shop and even then, they trickle in -- sometimes together, sometimes in separate shipments. But waiting for their Match barrels are worth it. Fitting is consistent (no highs/lows in the wrong places) and that makes for a good fit to slide...

Pssst: I think I made my first order to Irv in the late 60's when he was still making the barrels in his garage -- boy, does time fly... :)
