HI Guys,

It looks like the difference in price between a CQB and A Stainless Protector is $95. What are the advantages in owning a Protector VS the CQB.
is the stainless and guide rod the only real difference?

Full Size CQB, Armor-Tuff* Price: $2150.00
Full Size Protector, Stainless Steel Price: $2245.00

:) I have a stainless Protector that I have had about two months, and I think it is one of the best things since sliced bread, but I think that would be the case with any Wilson. (I have three by the way, and all are great)
I my opinion, I would get the one that you like the looks of the best, when you pay over $2,000 for a 1911, $95 doesn't mean a lot.

I have about 1,000 rounds through mine, never a problem of any kind.

have you looked on their web site www.wilsoncombat.com. Stainless steel is usually more expensive, also the protector is dehorned, full length guide rod with plug. The the person who replyed just get the one you like the best, for the situation you need it for, then you won't regret your choice. If it's too hard to choose, what about two Wilson?

I would say get whichever one feels the best, or get both. :-)

To get a definitive answer to your question, I would call WC. They are very nice and helpful. Short answer, I think you're right -- guide rod and finish.

I don't think you could go wrong with either choice. I'm sure you'll be happy with any WC.

OK, So I can not afford two Wilsons, yet. Good idea though. :)
Very slight differences and probably no advantage over the CQB. Now it is down to stainless or Armor tough.

I understand the the possible advantages of blue guns for concealed carry and combat. With that put aside.

Is stainless harder to maintain then the Armor tough? Will stainless show more ware in and out of a holster? I own blue guns now I never owned a stainless gun.

Thanks for your help

SS can gall when two pieces slide against each other.

I understand the the possible advantages of blue guns for concealed carry and combat.

I don't see the advantages of blued guns for concealed carry or combat. I think AT (or any other good coating) wins hands down in either situation over blued.

Is stainless harder to maintain then the Armor tough?

Both are pretty much maintenance free. I will say that it is easier for me to clean SS because I can see the powder on the gun more readily.

Will stainless show more ware in and out of a holster?

Any gun with any finish will show holster wear. Blued is probably the worst.

Baz, Go with the stainless Protector. I have a new CQB Compact in SS for concealed carry and I recommend it highly. I wipe it down with Tuff Cloth http://www.sentrysolutions.com/TufClothkew.shtml the gun stays protected with no oily film at all. I am so happy with this product that I now use all Sentry lubes exclusively. Good luck.

I just spoke to Larry at Wilson's and ordered the Stainless Steel Protector. I added a speed chute and picked out the double diamond wood cocobolos. My wait is four to six weeks. I have wanted a Wilson for 8 years. I have no problem waiting another four to six weeks.
Thanks to all of you for your suggestions and advice. Prior to chatting on this forum it was very hard for me to choose between the two handguns. Once you convinced me that I could not go wrong with either CQB or Protector I went with the stainless. I chose the stainless because I love the look and I have other 1911's in blue or black finishes.
Of course I will post pics when she arrives. Until then....be safe and shoot straight.

O.K. the wait is harder then I thought. I cant get enough pics of other Protectors to look at and I can imagine it in my hand. Five more weeks. Did I mention the checkering under the trigger guard? I am sure most of you understand what I am going through. ;)
