Is it a 1911 or a 1911A1?

Just a general question. Trying to find out as much as I can about the WWII issued pistols. (Navy Vet) I have a 1991 issue but am looking for an older issue

About 15,000+ M1911s were marked Model of 1911 US Navy on the slides, no 1911A1s though.

I sure some of the Navy's were reissued in WWII.

Colt M1991A1 pistols were early 1990s commercial pistols, so-designated because 1991 was the first year they were offered. The current 1991 series are a bit nicer, but the originals were Colt's attempt to offer a less expensive pistol in response to price competition from lower cost brands. The M1991A1s were never procured by or issued by the military. Thus, referring to one as "1991 issue" is technically incorrect.

I thought that that may be the case, but was just interested if the USN had it's own variation, like the USMC has the MEU-SOC.
