OK but how about synthetic automotive axle or rear-end grease ? Much less expensive and just as good or better in my NOT humble opinion. :D

Here's what the Nighthawk Custom folks said about Tetra products...
"You need to establish a good maintenance program to care for your new 1911. Other than cleaning, and an occasional spring change, they just don’t require much. When you do clean and lubricate your gun, we recommend the products from Tetra Gun®. After trying just about everything on the planet, we kept coming back to this one. We think that you will find, as we did, that they have the finest cleaners, conditioners and lubricants on the market."
That, sir, is quite a good recommendation for Tetra Gun Grease on your stainless Colt Commander!
Of course, I will admit being biased slightly as Tetra is what I use.

Anyone every try that stuff? (I replaced a CV joint once, and cleaned out, repacked and replaced the boots on the other 3. I'll never do that again.)
I'm currently using Tetra, because I ran out of the Wilson Combat grease, which I really like.

Please do not flame me, but I think Tetra is a great product, and I use it on the two firearms I own that demand grease, a Garand and a M1a.
But a few years back I was having problems where everything I used gumed up a full auto 9mm. I tried just about everything, and have a box full of various lubs to prove it. I called the manufacturer and asked them what they recommended. The recommended a fully synthetic 0W weight motor oil such as Amsoil or Mobil-1. I went to Wally World and got a quart of 0W-30 Mobil-1 and that particular gun now wipes clean after use - 1K rounds in a single session is not uncommon. The quart is enough to probably last you a life time which is a bargin at $5/quart.
After that I use it on every firearm I have and have never had any problems or ware. It does not gum up and makes cleaning much easier. I highly recommend it. Some day I will have to throw out that box of other expensive gun lubes. I certainly recommend it for any 1911.

Well, gun oil is oil and gun grease is grease... one flows and one stays relatively in place. They each have their purpose, even on the same firearm.
While you can run a 1911A1 without detriment using oil alone, it must be well oiled and oiled frequently.
I still prefer to use gun grease in appropriate places on my 1911's... it's just a personal choice, but I neverless feel my pistols are better protected. Tetra is good stuff... so is Militec... and there are other extremely well formulated products to choose from.
Just as important to me is that a tube of gun grease stores easier with my other gun cleaning stuff... and travels to the range more conveniently.
