I have a 1911A1 with a plunger and spring secured with an allen key inside the recoil spring guide is that one of those fad parts or what?

Probably a full length guide rod

Its a 2 piece guide rod. Unscrew the front half, then the gun comes apart just like any standard 1911.

no the plunger is inside the recoil spring guide the recoil spring goes around it and the recoil spring attaches to the recoil spring plug with a small indentation so it wont shot out I push the recoil spring plug and can turn the bushing. the allen key is in the back of the recoil spring guide that is up againist the link there is a spring inside the recoil spring guide.

Sounds like some kind of recoil system.........can you post a pic of it?
