In my quest to buy a GOOD, ACCURATE Colt, I have come across a Chip McCormick Racer that the guy says is stainless. I have only seen pics and the pistol appears to have only slight scratchs on it from general handling. He rates the gun at 99% and that's what it looks like in the pics. I can't find much on these limited production guns. Supposedly, they are out of the custom shop. I have seen no reference to there being a stainless model made- only hard chrome which maybe looks like stainless? One website I searched the comment was made they are the best that has ever come out of the Colt custom shop- pretty tall statement. Anyway, I will get to put my hands on it after January 4 when the guy gets back from the holidays. So are they worth having? Would it shoot light loads only as in target ammo or would the normal loadings be okay? The asking price is $1300.00 with the box but no papers. Any info is appreciated as everything I know about one is in this post.
Oh yeah, forgot to add, the guy claims it has had less than a box of ammo thru it. The recoil was way too much for him.

The Chip McCormick racer was a Limited release from Lew Horton. Lew Horton is a current firearms distributor located in Westboro, Ma. While they aren't a manufactuer or an importer, they have been responsible for many special and limited editions. Prices are hard to nail down as they vary from region to region. The gun in question the Chip McCormick Racer was made in 1994 and limited to 500 pieces and had a retail price of $1149.00. They also made a McCormick Combat Commander and a McCormick Officers....Hope this helps. As far as asking price seems fair to me. :)

The ones I have seen run around 1000 bucks asking price. My thought is....for 1300, you can get a Special Combat NIB. To me....a better value.

We have had that discussion for several weeks now and I'm going to suggest you take your own advice and pass on that bright stainless Goldcup and get a Special Combat ...... :scared:

I appreciate the responses. Special Combat it is then. Now I gotta find one. I haven't found a local dealer with one -yet. I'll keep looking.
Thanks,

Unless you are a "neo collector", or collecting recent Colt iterations I would also go with the Special Combat Gov. Mine makes a 12 gauge hole at 25 yards over sand bags, even with "4W" (Winchester White box from Wally World) 230gr FMJ (Full Metal Jacket). Mine was a little less than $1300 out the door, but not much. I put Desert Ironwood grips from Esmeralda on mine by the way.
