A few years ago, I purchased a Colt 1911 from an old man who got the firearm from his uncle. The serial number is 32x,xxx on the right side of the frame their is a serial number but in front of the serial number on the frame and directly above on the slide, there appears to have been another number. This number appears to be etched in to the slide and frame, but this number has been removed, I can make the etched number in the frame which starts with an R and has 5 digits (R63xxx). Can anyone help me identify what these numbers are? I beleive the old man said it was his uncles Army service number, does this sound correct?
